Tras el lanzamiento de su primer álbum, Bloodlust se ha pasado por la cueva para hablarnos del LP, el evento especial del 2 de diciembre, ¡y muchas cosas más!
Loud Cave: ¡Bienvenido a la cueva, Manji! Es todo un placer para nosotros poder entrevistar a uno de los mejores artistas de raw actual. Probablemente estés en el mejor momento de tu carrera musical. Cuéntanos, ¿cómo te encuentras?
Bloodlust: En primer lugar, quiero daros las gracias por recibirme. Me siento genial, ¡muchas cosas me van muy bien ahora mismo!
Loud Cave: Welcome to the cave, Manji! It’s a pleasure for us to be able to interview one of today’s best raw artists. You are probably in the best moment of your musical career. Tell us, how are you feeling?
Bloodlust: First of all, I want to thank you guys for having me. I feel great, a lot of things are going really well for me right now!
LC: A pesar de que eres holandés, podemos apreciar elementos orientales en tu logo, tipografía, ropa y videoclips. ¿Tienes un gusto especial por esta cultura?
B: La marca que rodea a Bloodlust es algo que se creó para dar vidilla al acto, para darle algo visual que nadie más tiene, para que cuando pienses en Bloodlust tengas una imagen que te recuerde a él.
Creo que la cultura japonesa de la oldschool tiene algo realmente genial y único. Es realmente poderosa, y pensé que encajaría muy bien con el nombre de Bloodlust.
LC: Although you are dutch, we can see oriental elements in your logo, typography, clothes and music videos. Do you have a special taste for this culture?
B: The branding around the whole Bloodlust act is something just created to bring the act to life, to give it something visual no one else has, so when you think in Bloodlust you have a cool image that reminds you to him. I think the oldschool japanese culture has something really cool and unique. It is really powerfull, and I just thought it would fit really well with the Bloodlust name.
LC: Hace años producías hard music bajo el nombre de Magnificient (véase “Where’s The Party”, lanzado en RSLVD Records). ¿Por qué decidiste acabar con este alias y comenzar un nuevo proyecto como Bloodlust?
B: Empecé como Magnificient en 2012, creo. Primero produje euphoric hardstyle, y después de un tiempo pensé que sería mejor empezar de nuevo con un nuevo alias, un nuevo sonido y una marca totalmente nueva. Creo que funcionó muy bien.
LC: Years ago you produced hard music under the name Magnificient (see “Where’s The Party”, released on RSLVD Records). Why did you decide to end this alias and start a new project as Bloodlust?
B: I indeed started of as Magnificent back in 2012, I think. First, I produced euphoric hardstyle, and after a while I thought it would be better to start fresh with a new alias, new sound and a whole new branding. I think it worked very well.
LC: Tu primer lanzamiento como Bloodlust, “Imma Boss”, revolucionó por completo la escena del raw en 2019. Si has conseguido tantas cosas en tan poco tiempo, es inimaginable pensar con qué vas a sorprender a lo largo de los años. ¿Cuánto tiempo llevas produciendo? ¿Recibiste formación? ¿Qué crees que tienes para gustarle tanto a la gente?
B: Sí, “Imma Boss” realmente fue el comienzo para mí, desde entonces todo ha subido y estoy muy agradecido por ello. Creo que a partir de ahora todo irá a mejor y seguiré intentando dar mi mejor versión.
Empecé a producir cuando tenía 15 años; ahora tengo 26. No recibí ninguna formación ni nada, soy alguien que prefiere hacerlo todo por su cuenta sin ninguna ayuda. No sé por qué, pero siempre he sido así. Simplemente me gusta hacer música, y me ha costado mucho llegar a donde estoy ahora.
Lo que más le gusta a la gente de mí es el empuje que tengo en mi música, creo. Cada drop tiene que ser muy enérgico y duro. Si no, no sería un tema de Bloodlust.
LC: Your first release as Bloodlust, “Imma Boss”, completely revolutionised the raw scene in 2019. If you’ve achieved so much in such a short time, it’s unimaginable to think what you’re going to surprise with over the years. How long have you been producing, did you receive any training, what do you think people like so much about you?
B: Yes, “Imma Boss” really did started it for me, since then it only has been going up and I am really gratefull for that. I think it will only get better from here and I will keep trying to give the best I can.
I started producing when I was 15 years old; now I am 26. I did not get any training or anything, I am someone who would rather do everything myself without any help. I don’t know why that is, but it’s just how I always have been. I just like making music, and it took really long to get where I am now.
The thing people really like about me is the drive I have in my music, I think. Every drop just has to be super energetic and hard, or else it won’t be a Bloodlust track.
LC: Uno de los elementos más importantes de tu música es tu tipo de kick característico. ¿Te costó mucho llegar a diferenciar tanto el sonido de tus bombos? ¿Qué importancia crees que tiene la personalidad de los kicks en el rawstyle?
B: Muy buena pregunta porque, en efecto, puede ser muy difícil innovar en los kicks cuando siempre quieres aportar algo nuevo. No creo que tenga un bombo característico, sino más bien un “estilo” característico. La gente me dice que se da cuenta al instante de que es un tema de Bloodlust, no por los sonidos, sino por la forma en que está hecha la música. Me hace mucha gracia oírlo, porque muchas veces hago tracks tan diferentes entre sí que creo que la gente no sabría que es un tema mío, pero al final siempre saben que soy yo.
LC: One of the most important elements of your music is your signature kick. Did you find it hard to differentiate the sound of your kicks so much? How important do you think the personality of the kicks is in rawstyle?
B: Really good question because, indeed, it can be super hard to innovate in kicks when you always want to bring something new to the table. I don’t think I have like 1 signature kick, but more a signature “style”. People tell me that they instantly hear when a track is a Bloodlust track, not because of the sounds, but because of the way the music is made. I find that pretty funny to hear actually, because a lot of the times I make tracks that are so different from each other that I think people won’t know it’s a track from me, but they always know it’s me in the end.
LC: El 28 de octubre lanzaste “In Blood We Trust”, tu primer álbum de estudio (el cual hemos analizado en la web). Este LP iba a lanzarse en 2020, pero por diversos motivos ha visto la luz dos años después. ¿Cómo te sientes al haber sacado la compilación más importante de tu carrera? ¿Cuál es tu track favorito del álbum?
B: De hecho, el álbum iba a salir en abril de 2020, pero el COVID me hizo lanzar los temas de ese álbum como singles. Guardé toda la idea del álbum para hacer uno completamente nuevo (en cuanto a canciones). Me siento mucho mejor con el LP ahora que en 2020, he mejorado mucho en la producción y estoy 100% contento con el resultado.
Mi canción favorita es “In Blood We Trust”, que ocupa un lugar especial en mi corazón.
LC: On October 28th you released “In Blood We Trust”, your first studio album (which we have reviewed on the web). This LP was supposed to be released in 2020, but for various reasons it has seen the light of day two years later. How do you feel about releasing the most important compilation of your career? What is your favourite track from the album?
B: Indeed, the album was about to drop in April of 2020, but COVID made me release the tracks on that album as singles. I saved the whole idea of the album to make a completely new one (song wise). I feel a lot better about the album now than in 2020, I got a lot better in producing and I am 100% happy with the result.
My favourite track is “In Blood We Trust”; it holds a special place in my heart.
LC: Si nos remontamos atrás en el tiempo vemos que ya habías trabajado con la mayoría de artistas con los que colaboras en el álbum (véanse “One With The Streets” y “Ghetto Bass” con Unresolved, “Get Down” junto a Regain, “Deathblow” en colaboración con E-Force, y “The Assassins” con Carola & Livid). ¿Vuestra sinergia en el estudio es lo que ha hecho que hayas vuelto a trabajar con ellos en vez de probar con otros artistas?
B: Sí, trabajé con estos artistas porque sabía que estas combinaciones parecían haber funcionado muy bien. Ya tenía un buen contacto con ellos debido a las colaboraciones anteriores, así que fue una elección fácil trabajar con ellos de nuevo.
LC: Going back in time, you had already worked with most of the artists you collaborate with on the album (see “One With The Streets” and “Ghetto Bass” with Unresolved, “Get Down” with Regain, “Deathblow” in collaboration with E-Force, and “The Assassins” with Carola & Livid). Is it your synergy in the studio that made you go back to working with them instead of trying other artists?
B: Yea, I worked with these artist because I knew these combinations really seem to had worked out really well. I already had a good contact with these guys because of the previous collabs, so it was a easy choice to work with them again.
LC: En “I Want Your Body” se aprecian partes muy interesantes de hard techno. ¿Tienes pensado volver a lanzar tracks de este estilo? ¿Quiénes son tus artistas favoritos de techno?
B: Sí, el hard techno y el hardstyle se están uniendo mucho últimamente, y me encanta. Creo que lanzaré más temas como este en el futuro.
Mis artistas favoritos de hard techno son 999999999, Shlomo, Nico Moreno y Dyen.
LC: On “I Want Your Body” there are some very interesting hard techno parts. Do you plan to release tracks in this style again? Who are your favourite techno artists?
B: Yes, hard techno and hardstyle are coming together a lot lately, and I absolutely love it. I think I will release more tracks like this in the future.
My favourite hard techno artists are 999999999, Shlomo, Nico Moreno and Dyen.
LC: “Falling Down” es un homenaje a los famosos cantantes Lil Peep y XXXTENTACION. ¿Por qué decidiste remezclar este himno de la música urbana?
B: Este tema es uno de mis favoritos de todos los tiempos. Siempre dije que quería que esta pista sonara en mi funeral si llegaba ese momento.
Sólo quería pinchar este tema en los eventos, así que hice un remix de raw que mantiene esta gran parte emocional. Todavía se me pone la piel de gallina cuando la pincho en el escenario.
LC: “Falling Down” is a tribute to the famous singers Lil Peep and XXXTENTACION. Why did you decide to remix this urban music anthem?
B: It is actually one of my all time favourite tracks. I always said I wanted this track to be played on my funeral if that time would be there.
I just wanted to play this track on events, so I made a raw version of it which still has this big emotional side. I still get goosebumps when I play it on stage.
LC: En “Get Up” junto a Regain se escuchan partes de house y de trap. Durante los últimos tiempos, el raw se ha mezclado con distintos subgéneros de bass music (algunos ejemplos serían el bass house de Sickmode en “FULL TANK (L4MB0 2.0)”, el hybrid trap de So Juice en “Juice” o el DnB de Anderex en “ACID TECH”). ¿Crees que esta tendencia le aporta personalidad a la escena electrónica? ¿Vas a volver a mezclar hard y bass en alguno de tus tracks?
B: Sí, siempre he incorporado diferentes géneros a mi música. Tengo periodos en los que escucho mucho un determinado tipo de música o descubro algo nuevo que me gusta mucho, por lo que quiero hacer esa música yo mismo combinándola con raw. También me gusta mucho cuando otros artistas hacen esto; es fresco.
LC: In “Get Up” with Regain you can hear parts of house and trap. In recent times, raw has been mixed with different sub-genres of bass music (some examples would be the bass house of Sickmode in “FULL TANK (L4MB0 2.0)”, the hybrid trap of So Juice in “Juice” or the DnB of Anderex in “ACID TECH”). Do you think this trend brings personality to the electronic scene? Are you going to mix hard and bass again in any of your tracks?
B: Yes, I´ve always incorporated different genres into my music. I have periods in where I listen to a certain type of music a lot or I discover something new I really like, so then I want to make that music myself combining it with raw. I really like it when other artist do this as well. It’s fresh!
LC: Teniendo en cuenta tu canción con Elite Enemy (“Lose Control”) y hablando de tendencias, últimamente también se están viendo muchas colaboraciones entre DJs de raw y de uptempo. Cryex & Cryogenic, Ncrypta & Lunakorpz, Rebelion & Dimitri K & The Dark Horror, o hasta tu tema “Chase The Dragon” con Deadly Guns… ¿Crees que este tipo de canciones le dan un soplo de aire fresco a la escena? ¿Disfrutas de los géneros con BPMs más altos?
B: Sí, eso creo. Siempre puedo hacer un set un poco más loco. Pensé que sería genial terminar el álbum con un buen uptempo duro.
LC: Taking into account your track with Elite Enemy (“Lose Control”) and talking about trends, lately we are also seeing a lot of collaborations between raw and uptempo DJs. Cryex & Cryogenic, Ncrypta & Lunakorpz, Rebelion & Dimitri K & The Dark Horror, or even your track “Chase The Dragon” with Deadly Guns… Do you think this kind of songs give a breath of fresh air to the scene? Do you enjoy genres with higher BPMs?
B: Yes, I think so! I just can make a set a bit more crazier. I thought it would be great to end the album with some good hard uptempo.
LC: El próximo 2 de diciembre se celebrará el evento de “In Blood We Trust”. ¿Qué podemos esperar de esta fiesta?
B: Podéis esperar un evento realmente dedicado. No será una gran fiesta con miles de personas, pero será un evento en el que toda la gente vendrá por lo mismo. Creo que el ambiente va a ser realmente épico y será una noche para recordar.
LC: On the 2nd of december the “In Blood We Trust” event will take place. What can we expect from this party?
B: You can expect a real pure dedicated event! It won’t be a huge party with 1000’s of people, but It will be an event where all people will come for the same thing. I think the vibe there is gonna be really epic and it will be a night to remember, for sure!
LC: Desde 2019 formas parte del sello End Of Line Recordings, el label de Warface. ¿Qué simboliza para ti estar en este equipo? ¿Podemos esperar alguna otra mega collab como “Strongest Formation”?
B: Sí, es genial formar parte del equipo de End Of Line. Tenemos a algunos de los artistas más importantes de la escena aquí, y todos ellos son muy buenos chicos y me encantan, al igual que su música.
Quizá ya estemos trabajando en algo así… quién sabe jejeje.
LC: Since 2019 you are part of End Of Line Recordings, the label of Warface. What does it symbolize for you to be in this team? Can we expect another mega collab like “Strongest Formation”?
B: Yes, it’s cool to be part of the End Of Line squad. We´ve got some of the biggest artist in the scene on here, and they are all really great guys and I love them all, same thing for their music as well.
Maybe we are already working on something like that? Who knows hehehe.
LC: ¿Cómo es Bloodlust en cabina?
B: ¡Una gran explosión de energía!
LC: What is Bloodlust like in the festivals?
B: One big explosion of energy!

B: Both! It really depends on the track itself!
LC: ¿Pinchar o producir?
B: Me encanta producir e interpretar mis temas. Ser DJ es un poco aburrido sin una multitud, así que voy a hacer un poco de trampa con esta respuesta.
Producir mis propios temas e interpretarlos en el escenario, pero no pinchar. Entonces me quedo con un set pregrabado jajaja.
LC: DJing or producing?
B: Hmm, I love producing and performing my tracks. DJing itself is kind of boring without a crowd, so I will cheat a bit with this answer.
Producing my own tracks and performing them on stage, but not DJing! I will do a prerecored set then hahaha.
LC: ¿Con qué DAW trabajas?
B: Ableton.

B: Creo que con artistas con los que no he trabajado. Rebelion, Vertile, D-sturb o Sickmode serían geniales.
