Los hermanos alemanes Dominic & Justin Wolter han vuelto a la cueva para brindanos una entrevista que os va a enseñar mucho sobre el panorama del uptempo hardcore actual. ¿Preparados?
¡Hola chicos! Antes de empezar con la entrevista nos gustaría agradeceos vuestra presencia en la cueva hoy. Esperamos que estéis bien a pesar de tener que estar viviendo unos tiempos tan raros y difíciles.
LC: Chaotic Brotherz representa un dúo musical compuesto por dos hermanos locos por el hardcore. ¿Quién fue el primero que empezó a sentir pasión por el género? ¿En qué momento decidisteis empezar a hacer música juntos?
CB: El mayor y loco Dominic comenzó con la música alrededor del año 2010-2012, y me atrajo (Justin) directamente a la música. Como no estuvimos en contacto durante mucho tiempo y sólo en 2017 el contacto se hizo más y más frecuente, yo (Justin) decidí mudarme a la casa de mi hermano a finales de 2019 y empezar en la música junto a él.
LC: Chaotic Brotherz represents a musical duo composed by two brothers crazy about hardcore. Who was the first one who started to feel passion for the genre? At what point did you decide to start making music together?
CB: The older crazy Dominic started with the music around the year 2010-2012, and seduced me (Justin) directly to the music. Since we were not in contact for a long time and only around 2017 the contact became more and more frequent, I (Justin) decided to move to my brother’s house at the end of 2019 and to start in music together with him.
LC: En vuestro SoundCloud podemos ver que en 2019 ya estabais sacando remixes, singles no oficiales, kicks edits y bootlegs (llegando en ocasiones a superar las 300k visualizaciones). ¿Cuánto tiempo lleváis produciendo? ¿Habéis recibido algún tipo de formación?
CB: Yo (Justin) descubrí FL Studio cuando tenía 14 años, es decir, en 2014. Empecé a producir beats de hip-hop y de trap y poco a poco fui aumentando mis conocimientos con FL Studio y probé otros géneros. Como con los años perdí las ganas de hacer hip-hop & trap beats y ambos tenemos el mismo gusto musical, decidí tener un cambio completo. A mediados de 2019 empecé a producir uptempo, y a finales de 2019 cuando me mudé a casa de Dominic le enseñé todo y hasta el día hoy estamos creciendo mutuamente.
LC: On your SoundCloud we can see that in 2019 you were already releasing remixes, unofficial singles, kicks edits and bootlegs (sometimes reaching over 300k views). How long have you been producing? Have you received any training?
CB: I (Justin) discovered FL Studio when I was 14, so 2014. I started producing hip-hop beats and trap beats and from year to year I increased my knowledge with FL Studio, and tried out other genres. Since we lost the desire for hip-hop & trap beats over the years and we both have the same taste in music, I decided to make a complete switch. In the middle of 2019 I started producing uptempo, and in the end of 2019 when I moved to Dominic’s place I taught him everything and until today we are growing each other.
LC: Durante esta época no os dedicasteis sólo al uptempo, ya que llegamos a escuchar otros géneros como hardstyle, hardcore mainstream, frenchcore, goa psytrance o jersey club. ¿En qué momento y por qué decidisteis dedicaos plenamente al uptempo?
CB: Como ya hemos explicado, decidimos empezar a producir uptempo en 2019.
Aunque uno se pregunta, ¿realmente decidimos hacer esto? Creemos que simplemente era un gran género para nosotros, a muchos de nuestros amigos les gusta y siempre estamos probando cosas nuevas.
Así que para todos ustedes, sólo esperen y vean lo que viene.
LC: During this period you didn’t dedicate yourselves only to uptempo, as we got to listen to other genres such as hardstyle, mainstream hardcore, frenchcore, goa psytrance or jersey club. At what point and why did you decide to dedicate yourselves fully to uptempo?
CB: As explained before, we decided to start producing uptempo in 2019. Although one wonders, did we really decide to do this? We think it was just a great genre for us, a lot of our friends like it and we are always trying out new things. So to all of you, just wait and see what comes.
LC: Sois de nacionalidad alemana, un país en el que la música hard se valora mucho, habiendo así cientos de artistas reconocidos y festivales muy relevantes. ¿Os fue difícil daos a conocer por esta razón?
CB: Ahora no diríamos que fue difícil, para ser honestos. Fue sólo suerte y habilidad.
LC: You are of german nationality, a country where hard music is highly valued, having hundreds of recognized artists and very relevant festivals. Was it difficult for you to make yourselves known for this reason?
CB: We wouldn’t say difficult now, to be honest. It was just luck & ability.
LC: El punto de inflexión en vuestra carrera musical fue sin duda cuando firmasteis con el sello de Partyraiser. ¿Cómo pasasteis de lanzar temas no oficiales en vuestro SoundCloud a producir para uno de los sellos de hardcore más importantes? ¿Qué tiene vuestro equipo (Revealer, The Motordogs, Chromaxx, Spiady…) para diferenciarse del resto? ¿Qué papel creéis que tiene la figura de Partyraiser en la escena hard?
CB: Buscamos juntos consejos y trucos en YouTube relacionados con el uptempo y encontramos a nuestros colegas de Estados Unidos, como EQUAL2.
Él nos dio algunos consejos con sus vídeos y también nos llevamos muy bien en privado, así que planeamos un EP con 2 temas en colaboración y uno en solitario cada uno (un total de 4 temas). En realidad queríamos lanzarlo como un free download, pero también queríamos probar si a un sello le gustaba nuestra música. Nuestra suerte y habilidad dieron sus frutos; a Partyraiser le gustó nuestro EP, nos escribió un email y así entramos en el sello. Somos un equipo de jóvenes productores apasionados por lo que hacemos, todos queremos conseguir algo y tenemos muchos planes para el futuro. Cada uno de nosotros en el sello es único.
Partyraiser tiene un papel muy importante, porque es algo así como un veterano en la escena. ¡Y nos ha sorprendido muy positivamente en algunos aspectos!
LC: The turning point in your musical career was undoubtedly when you signed with Partyraiser’s label. How did you go from releasing unofficial tracks on your SoundCloud to producing for one of the most important hardcore labels? What does your team (Revealer, The Motordogs, Chromaxx, Spiady…) have to differentiate from the rest? What role do you think Partyraiser has in the hardcore scene?
CB: We looked for tips and tricks together on YouTube in the direction of uptempo and found our colleagues from the USA, like EQUAL2. He gave us some tips with his videos and we also got along very well privatel, so we planned an EP with 2 collab tracks and one solo track each (a total of 4 tracks). We actually wanted to release it as a free release, but we also wanted to try out if a label likes our music. Our luck & ability paid off; Partyraiser liked our EP, wrote an email and so we got into the label. We are a team of young producers who are passionate about what we do, we all want to achieve something and have a lot planned for the future. Each of us from the label is unique!
Partyraiser has a very big role, because he is something like a veteran in the scene. And has surprised us very positively in some respects!
LC: Vuestra primera aparición en este label fue a finales de 2020 con “Devil Scream”, una canción incluida en el álbum de “The Family”. ¿Qué simboliza para vosotros este lanzamiento?
CB: Fue el primer gran lanzamiento en un sello importante; un sueño hecho realidad.
LC: Your first appearance on this label was at the end of 2020 with “Devil Scream”, a song included in “The Family” album. What does this release symbolize for you?
CB: It was the first big release on a major label; a dream come true!
LC: Desde ese momento habéis participado en la saga de “We Roar” junto a otros grandes artistas como Major Conspiracy, MBK, F.Noize o System: Overload. ¡Actualmente se han sacado ya cuatro entregas! ¿Creéis que esta saga le aporta personalidad al sello? ¿Os gustaría que se siguiesen sacando más y más ediciones?
CB: Sin duda le da una personalidad al sello, al igual que la de Partyraiser, porque no sólo participan nuestros colegas del sello sino que también da a los nuevos la oportunidad de lanzar algo y probarse a sí mismos. Planeamos estar en todos los shows de “We Roar”, y es como una obligación para nosotros.
LC: Since then you have participated in the “We Roar” saga together with other great artists such as Major Conspiracy, MBK, F.Noize or System:Overload. Currently there are already four releases! Do you think this saga adds personality to the label? Would you like to continue releasing more and more editions?
CB: It certainly gives the label a personality, as well as that of Partyraiser, because not only our colleagues from the label participate but it also gives newcomers the chance to release something and prove themselves. We plan to be on all the “We Roar” shows, and it’s like a must for us.
LC: Además de lanzar a principios de 2021 “Drop Hot” (vuestro primer EP oficial con grandes colaboraciones como The Dark Horror o Loud Carnage), hace poco sacasteis “You Ain´t A Killer”, vuestro último trabajo (analizado en la web). Lo que más llama la atención de este último EP es el aumento extremo de la calidad de sonido, la importancia de las ambientaciones y la innovación a la hora de hacer kicks. ¿Cómo habéis dado un salto tan grande en tan poco tiempo?
CB: Hemos aprendido mucho, recogido muchos consejos y trucos, así como tomado más conocimiento con el programa.
Trabajamos en la música casi todos los días y siempre estamos aprendiendo.
Dato curioso: queremos mejorar más y más cada vez que competimos entre nosotros, y creemos que eso es lo que nos hace especiales.
LC: Besides releasing in early 2021 “Drop Hot” (your first official EP with great collaborations like The Dark Horror or Loud Carnage), you recently released “You Ain’t A Killer”, your latest work (reviewed on the web). What is most striking about this latest EP is the extreme increase in sound quality, the importance of ambience and innovation when it comes to making kicks. How did you make such a big leap in such a short time?
CB: We have learned a lot, collected many tips & tricks and got more in touch with the programme. We are working on the music almost every day and are always learning. Fun fact: We want to improve more and more each time we play against each other, and we think that’s what makes us special.
LC: Hace un par de meses entrevistamos a EQUAL2. Los tres habéis colaborado en repetidas ocasiones, tanto en sencillos no oficiales como en EPs (“Stone Cold Killer” y “Krunk”) y canciones en “We Roar”. ¿Qué relación tenéis con este joven productor? ¿Qué opináis de su forma de hacer uptempo?
CB: Comenzamos nuestra carrera junto a él, por así decirlo. Siempre será un buen amigo nuestro, y su estilo es único.
De hecho, nos hace gracia que mucha gente quiera imitarle, ¡pero EQUAL2 sigue siendo único!
LC: A couple of months ago we interviewed EQUAL2. The three of you have collaborated on several occasions, both on unofficial singles and EPs (“Stone Cold Killer” and “Krunk”) and songs on “We Roar”. What is your relationship with this young producer? What do you think of his uptempo style?
CB: We started our career together with him, so to speak. He will always be a very good friend of us, and his style is unique. We actually find it funny how many people want to imitate him, but EQUAL2 remains unique!
LC: No tenemos muchas referencias de actuaciones vuestras en directo, pero las que hemos visto nos han gustado mucho. ¿Disfrutáis pinchando de cara al público? Además, habéis participado en Harder Kan Toch Niet, el livestream de hardcore más importante del mundo. ¿Cómo fue vuestra experiencia? ¿Qué opináis de estos eventos?
CB: Sí, nos gusta mucho actuar delante del público, ¿conoces esa sensación? Vas de camino a ver a tu DJ favorito y de repente te pones delante de él y le escuchas en directo por primera vez. La piel de gallina y la emoción que sientes ahí es algo que sentimos siempre antes de un concierto.
Lo único que podemos decir de HKTN es: ¡gracias! Serra (fundador de HKTN) nos dio la oportunidad de pinchar allí, la primera vez en Holanda. La emoción fue mucho mayor y nos divertimos mucho. El sistema de sonido, la gente de allí…. ¿Qué podemos decir ¡Nos encanta Holanda!
LC: We don’t have many references of your live performances, but the ones we’ve seen we’ve liked a lot. Do you enjoy playing in front of the audience? Also, you have participated in Harder Kan Toch Niet, the most important hardcore livestream in the world. How was your experience? What do you think about these events?
CB: Yes, we really enjoy being in front of the audience, do you know the feeling: you are just on your way to your favourite DJ and suddenly you stand in front of him and hear him live for the first time? The goosebumps and excitement you feel there is something we feel every time before every gig.
All we can say about HKTN is: thank you! Serra (founder of HKTN) gave us the chance to play there, the first time in Holland. The excitement was much higher, and we had a lot of fun. The sound system, the people there… What can we say? We love Holland!
LC: ¿Podéis darnos alguna pista sobre lo que tenéis preparado para este 2022? ¿Existe la posibilidad de escuchar un álbum de Chaotic Brotherz?
CB: Creemos que es demasiado pronto para un álbum, queremos probarnos a nosotros mismos primero y mostrar lo que podemos hacer para ampliar también nuestra base de fans/comunidad. Tenemos suficientes temas para un álbum, y ese es también un plan para el futuro. Así que, ¡tened curiosidad!
LC: Can you give us any hints about what you have in store for 2022, and is there a possibility of hearing a Chaotic Brotherz album?
CB: We think it’s a bit too early for an album, we want to prove ourselves first and show what we can do to also expand our fanbase/community. We still have enough tracks for an album, and that´s also a plan for the future. So be curious!

CB: Very difficult, we have many favourites in any case. But the dream of all dreams would be: Timmy Trumpet, Partyraiser, DRS, MBK, Cryogenic.
LC: Festivales/shows en los que os gustaría pinchar.
CB: Nos gustaría pinchar en todos los que podamos, así que estaremos encantados de ir a cualquier festival. Nuestros favoritos: Defqon.1, Thunderdome, Masters Of Hardcore, Tomorrowland
LC: Festivals/shows where you would like to play.
CB: We would like to take along everything we can! So happy to go to any festival where possible. Favourites: Defqon.1, Thunderdome, Masters Of Hardcore, Tomorrowland.
LC: Tipo de kick favorito.
CB: Los que más nos gustan son nuestros kicks. Hay mucho entrenamiento detrás y es muy difícil encontrar tu propio estilo. Sin embargo; también nos gustan mucho los estilos de kicks de Cryogenic, MBK, Judax y EQUAL2.
LC: Favorite type of kick.
CB: We love our kicks the most. There is a lot of training behind it and it was very difficult to find your own style. However, we also really like the kick styles of Cryogenic, MBK, Judax & EQUAL2!
LC: DAW preferido.
CB: FL Studio, porque empezamos con él y una vez que estás en él, te acostumbras. Para nosotros, no hay otra opción.
LC: Preferred DAW.
CB: FL Studio, because we started with it and once you’re in it, you get used to it. For us, there is no other option.
LC: Una meta a largo plazo.
CB: Nos gustaría ser una cara conocida en la escena.
LC: A long-term goal.
CB: We would like to be a familiar face on the scene.
LC: Recomendadnos tres lugares para visitar en Alemania.
CB: Düsseldorf es muy bonita, aunque sólo sea por el Rhine; la torre del Rhine y el centro de la ciudad. Hamburgo también es muy bonita, es la ciudad portuaria de Alemania y es famosa por la Reeperbahn. Y en Berlín, la capital de Alemania, ¡sólo la Puerta de Brandemburgo es una visita obligada!
LC: Recommend three places to visit in Germany.
CB: Düsseldorf is very beautiful, if only because of the Rhine; the Rhine Tower and the city centre. Hamburg is also very nice, it’s Germany’s port city and famous for the Reeperbahn. And in Germany’s capital Berlin, the Brandenburg Gate alone is a must-see!
