Bienvenidos cavernícolas a este jueves tan especial en el que vamos a entrevistar a DRS, uno de los DJs de hardcore a los que más cariño le tenemos en la cueva

Junot Theuwissen, el hombre al que conocemos como DRS, es un DJ y productor nacido en Bélgica que lleva mucho tiempo en la cumbre de la escena de la música dura. Siempre ha estado en la boca de la gente, pero últimamente lo está aun más, en parte debido al éxito que tuvo “Warriors”, su colaboración con Irradiate y Tha Watcher (la cual comentamos en la web). Además, los fans adoran su su último EP: “Dark Vibes”. El día de hoy, DRS está con nosotros para hablar de cosas muy interesantes. ¡Empecemos!

Loud Cave: Antes de empezar con la entrevista, debemos decir que es todo un placer para nosotros poder charlar en la cueva con uno de los productores de hardcore que más admiramos. ¿Qué tal estás?

DRS: Chicos estoy bien, gracias por estas palabras, espero lo mismo para cada uno de ustedes.

Loud Cave: Before starting with the interview, we have to say that is a pleasure talk in the cave with one of the hardcore producers that we admire the most. How are you?

DRS: Yoo guys I’m all good thanks for these words hope the same for each one of you.

LC: Por lo que tenemos entendido, las siglas DRS significan DJ Darkressive System. ¿Cuál es el porqué de este nombre artístico?

DRS: Dark Aggressive system (acortado) -> Dark Ressive System -> Darkressive System.
Un promotor me pidió al principio que cambiara esto por DRS porque era demasiado largo para ponerlo en el folleto, de ahí en adelante se convirtió en DRS.

LC: From what we understand, the acronyms DRS mean DJ Darkressive System. What is the reason of this stage name?

DRS: Dark Aggressive system (shortened up) —> Dark Ressive System —> Darkressive System.
A promoter asked me at the very beginning to change this into DRS ‘cause it was to long for putting on the flyer from than on it actually became DRS.

LC: Tu último single “Warriors” junto a Irradiate y Tha Watcher fue un gran éxito, alcanzando el top 1 canciones en Hard Tunes. ¿Qué crees que tiene este tema para haberle gustado tanto a la gente? ¿Cómo es trabajar con los chicos de Irradiate? ¿Por qué crees que ambos encajáis tan bien?

DRS: Creo que el mensaje aportado por Tha Watcher junto con la combinación de estilos musicales hizo que este tema se convirtiera en lo que es.
Los dos productores tenemos la misma visión futurista en cuanto a la música, aunque a ellos les gusta añadir una vibración más “feliz”, mientras que yo prefiero añadir una vibración más maligna. Esto, a nuestra manera, nos aporta algo nuevo y de nuevo nivel una y otra vez. Aparte de eso, también conectamos bien en la vida personal, lo que hace que sea más agradable trabajar juntos, ya que siempre hay diversión a la vuelta de la esquina.

LC: Your last single “Warriors” next to Irradiate and Tha Wacther has been a big hit, achieving the Hard Tunes top 1 songs. What do you think this song has that people have liked it so much? How is it working with them guys of Irradiate? Why do you think you both fit so well?

DRS: I think the message brought by Tha Watcher together with the combination of styles of music made this track into what it became. 
We both as producers have the same futuristic vision according to music although they like to add a more ‘happy’ kind of influenced vibe while I do prefer more to add some evil kind of vibes. This in our own ways being combined just brings something new and next level over and over again. Apart from that we do also connect in personal life swell which only makes it more nice to work together since there’s always fun around the corner. 

LC: Además de Irradiate, hemos visto que tienes tanto temas como sets junto al español MBK, destacando “RIP” y “The Cell”. ¿Qué es lo que más te gusta de trabajar con él?

DRS: MBK y yo nos conocemos desde hace mucho tiempo, somos como hermanos de diferentes madres, por lo que estar juntos en el estudio y en el escenario siempre significa un 666% de locura.

LC: Besides Irradiate, we have seen that you also have sets and songs with the Spanish MBK, highlighting “RIP” and “The Cell”. What do you like the most from working with him?

DRS: Me and MBK go way back we are like brothers from different mothers this together in studio and on stage always means 666% madness.

LC: ¿Qué tiene Madsin para ser tu vocalista de confianza?

DRS: Le gusta mi estilo de música y viceversa, lo que hace que sea agradable combinar poderes. Hay un flujo de trabajo fluido, así que, por ejemplo, cuando tengo una idea, un sentimiento o un mensaje que me gustaría que se convirtiera en una letra, puedo enviársela sabiendo que él creará algo bonito a partir de ella que se puede grabar después.

LC: What does Madsin has to be your trusted singer?

DRS: He likes my style of music and visa versa which makes it nice to combine powers. There’s a fluent workflow so for instance when i have an idea, feeling or a message that i’d like to see turned over into some lyrics, I could just send this over to him knowing he will create something nice out of it that can be recorded afterwards.

LC: Tu 2021 ha sido alucinante, con apariciones tanto en tu sello como en Masters Of Hardcore. ¿Tienes cosas preparadas para los tiempos que vienen?

DRS: Seguramente, tengo un montón de nuevos temas listos para ser lanzados en un futuro próximo, así que mejor mantened los ojos bien abiertos.

LC: Your 2021 has been mind-blowing, with appearances on both your label and Masters Of Hardcore. Do you have things lined up for the times ahead?

DRS: Surely, have allot of new tracks ready to be released in the near future so better keep your eyes wide open. 
Collabs with artists like: D-Fence, Nosferatu, Dr. Peacock, Irradiate, Republic, Imperial… and MC’s like: Madsin, Tha Watcher, EZG, Mr Hyde, Sovereign King, ..

LC: Tu último álbum, “Checkmate”, fue una obra maestra que marcó un antes y un después en tu carrera musical gracias a su calidad y a su cantidad de tracks y colaboraciones. ¿Tienes pensado volver a sacar un LP tan extenso?

DRS: Seguramente estoy planeando hacer la presentación de mi próximo álbum de nuevo en el festival Dominator.

LC: Your last music album, “Checkmate”, was a masterpiece that marked a before and after in your musical career thanks to its quality and quantity of tracks and collaborations. Are you planning on releasing a large LP again?

DRS: Im surely planning to do my next album showcase again at Dominator Festival.

LC: En tu sello, Triple Six Records, trabajan grandes productores como Abaddon, Trespassed, The Dope Doctor, Estasia o R3T3P. ¿Cuáles son los requisitos para ingresar en tu label?

DRS: Hacer algo único que pueda aportar una nueva ola a esta escena podría hacer que te vieran. Conseguir el respeto necesario de todo el mundo dentro del sello podría hacer que te convirtieras en una parte.

LC: In your record label, Triple Six records, work with big producers such as Abaddon, Trespassed, The Dope Doctor, Estasia or R3T3P. What are your requirements to enter your label?

DRS: Making something unique that could bring a new wave to this scene could make you get seen. Getting the respect needed from everyone within the label could make you become a part.

LC: Tus kicks son muy originales y característicos; llevan asociados tu marca personal. ¿Crees que utilizar siempre bombos muy parecidos es un problema, o por otro lado piensas que le aportan personalidad a los tracks? ¿Cuál/cuáles son tus plug-ins preferidos para crear kicks?

DRS: Creo que cada productor intenta crear lo que le gusta escuchar a sí mismo. De esta manera, con el tiempo crearás tu propio tipo de sonido.
Así que no es necesario usar los mismos kicks de nuevo para crear tu propio sonido en breve, creo que es mejor hacer diferentes estilos de kicks que puedan coincidir con cada uno de los que se mezclan, de esta manera seguirás siendo excepcional y crearás variedad dentro de tu propio estilo de música.
A mi me gusta usar microtonic para crear kicks, de hecho hace poco hice una masterclass donde explico como uso estos plug-ins para crear kicks y muchos otros temas relacionados con la producción.

LC: Your kicks are very original and characteristic; they have your own personal mark. Do you think using always similar bass drums is a problem, or in the other hand do you think that they provide personality to the tracks? What or which ones are your favorite plugins to create kicks?

DRS: I think that every producer try’s to create what he/she likes to hear themselves. In this way you’ll eventually create your own kind of sound.
So its not needed to use the same kicks again to create your own sound shortly explained I guess it’s better to make different style of kicks that could match onto each-other being mixed In this way you’ll still being outstanding and create variety within your own style of music. 
I like to use microtonic for creating kicks actually recently did a masterclass where I explain how i use them plugins to create kicks swell as many other subjects acc to producing. 

LC: ¿Cuál ha sido tu experiencia al actuar en Fabrik Madrid?

DRS: ¡Puro caos! Sinceramente no puedo esperar a volver. Me encantan las vibraciones de la fiesta española.

LC: What has been your experience performing at Fabrik Madrid?

DRS: Pure chaos ! Honestly can’t wait to be back. I love them crazy spanish party vibes.

LC: Eres de nacionalidad belga. ¿Cuáles crees que son los países en los que más se valora y escucha la música hardcore a nivel mundial?

DRS: Holanda, Alemania, Francia, España, Italia, Bélgica, Estados Unidos, Austria, Reino Unido, México, Suecia, Rusia, Suiza, …

LC: Your nationality is Belgian. What countries do you think are the ones where they value more and listen more to hardcore music worldwide?

DRS: Holland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, United States, Austria, Uk, Mexico, Sweden, Russia, Switzerland…

LC: ¿Escuchas estilos que se alejen del hardcore?

DRS: Escucho casi cualquier tipo de género. Techno, raw-style, hip-Hop, blues, classic, 90’s, pop, rock, trap, metal, psytrance, …

LC: Do you listen to styles that are different from hardcore?

DRS: I listen to almost any kind of genre. Techno, raw-style, hip-Hop, blues, classic, 90’s, pop, rock, trap, metal, psytrance, …

LC: ¿Cuál es el tema producido por ti al que más cariño le tienes?

DRS: Por el momento este sería el himno que hice para Snakepit junto con “Warriors”, que sigue yendo muy bien.

LC: What is the song produced by yourself that you like the most?

DRS: For the moment this would be the anthem I did for snakepit along with warriors which Is still going hard as F.

LC: Por último, ¿algo que decirles a todos los fans que tienes en España?

DRS: Sólo un infierno de agradecimiento para todos los que siguieron mostrando su apoyo verdaderamente dedicado a lo largo de esta pandemia del coronavirus. Este tomó parte en mi felicidad y una vez más me demostró que es más que la música.

LC: Lastly, something you want to tell to all your fans you have in Spain?

DRS: Just one hell of a thanks for everyone that kept showing their truly dedicated support throughout this corona pandemic this def took part in my happiness and once again showed me that it’s more than music.
