Entrevistando a: David Nováček

Loud Cave: ¡Buenas David!

Ahora somos familia! jaja.

Loud Cave: Hello David! It is such a pleasure to have you today in Loud Cave. Let´s start smoothly this interview going back to the very beginning of your musical journey. How were your first steps in electronic dance music? When did you start and how?
David Nováček: Hola LC Team. Pleasure to meet you. I was probably born with headphones on my head. Everything started when I was about 15 years old in my home town and the story behind this is crazy. I had my first gig in a club owned by my present wife’s parents. I started there as a young boy and my wife was 3 years old that day. We became friends with her parents and I was resident DJ about two years there. Now we’re family (haha).

DN:
No cambiaría nada, solo me dejo llevar.

LC: The sound of artists like you tends to change over the years. Although you have kept a signature in your sound during the past years, how do you feel that the sound of David Nováček evolved during these years? What path is your sound following now?
DN: I wouldn’t change anything and go with the flow. I have my own heart and way to do things and I’ll always do what feels good to me and what I love. I enjoy real music, bassline, instruments, trumpets, guitars etc. You can hear 90% latin vibes and vocals in my tracks because that’s exactly me.

Siendo sincero no tengo influencias.

LC: Continuing with the topic of latin house, but regarding your personal career. When and how did you find this “love” for the latin sounds? What is your relationship with the artists from the genre? Who are your influences/inspirations?
DN: Lot of my friends and partners said that I was born in Czech Republic but with Spanish / Colombian heart (smile). Relationships we have are simply amazing. We are one big “latino familia”. To be honest I don’t have any inspiration or influences. I just go to the studio everyday and do what I love.

LC: The south American culture is extremely rich in terms of instruments and traditions, musically speaking. How is the process of finding the key elements for a song that sounds actual (or modern)? How hard is to sample (or bring) these elements into the DAW and make them sound natural and integrated with the rest of the elements of actual house songs? Do you follow any specific process, or it varies from song to song?
DN: Yeah you’re right. Sometimes it’s very hard, because most of the latin tracks are made of salsa, real instrumets, percussions and more so it’s very hard to put it to your DAW on the BPM to make a house track. Sometimes we replace and record new instruments on the beats we have in DAW. There’s no specific process because every single song is different
.

LC: Your new record label “Adelante Records” was recently born with the release of “La Subienda”, track that we covered in LC. What means the launch of your own label for you? What is your goal with it? What kind of sound can we expect to hear in the label future releases?
DN: To have my very own label has always been my dream. With my friend and partner Jon Costa we finally started and yes – “La Subienda” is already out. We have also signed and prepared some amazing tracks already. Our label will release only one track a month. We are focusing only on great, massive tracks. We want to run it differently than other labels. Like I said – we want only big tracks, original recorded, no samples that everybody can buy.. you know what I mean.

DN:
Me encantan estos chicos. Son geniales e increiblemente talentosos como músicos. Es genial trabajar con ellos. Y sí, estad listos… ¡porque tenemos más temas en camino!

LC: In your last record “Rueda Al Tambor” we can see for the second time that the Colombian alliance with Fabián Hernández and traditional group Kuisitambó works perfectly. What is the story behind these two records together? Are you working on more songs with these artists?
DN: I love these guys. They are super nice and incredibly talented musicians. It’s great to work with them and be ready.. We have another tracks and collabs on the way.

LC: ¿Qué producirías si no fuera música house?

LC: What would you produce if you were not into house music? Since you like the latin styles, would you for example go for latin urban music? Or what other music genre you could see yourself producing and DJing?
DN: I love real music so it would maybe be disco and more as well. I don’t do only house music. I tried many styles. For example if I would play festival show, I’ll play Deadmau5 or Eric Prydz’s style because that’s what I am into as well. My dream is to be in the studio with people like Ryan Tedder, Mark Ronson, Oak Felder and more like them one day. For DJing I wouldn’t change a thing.

DN:
¿República Checa? ¡No hay escena! jajaja. No, solo bromeaba.

LC: Jumping to another topic. Tell us a bit about the music scene in Czech Republic. Is there a big culture of electronic music? What are the predominant genres?
DN: Czech Republic? There’s no scene hahaha nooo just kidding. Some people here are doing a great job with their clubs, festivals and parties but to be honest I have about 8 gigs a year in my country. It’s different.. not like in Amsterdam or Ibiza, Miami where people go to the parties to hear fresh, new, unreleased music and go there to see “their” DJs. It is more commercial in here, radio, pop, R’N’B, EDM and people don’t really care about new upcoming music. They are just thrilled with Despacito (crying, dying inside).

LC: How has the global pandemic affected the country (measures in clubs, festivals and so on) and your personal life as a DJ? Is it getting better now with the vaccination plans all around Europe or do you feel like the industry still needs some more time to recover?
DN: Corona time has been very tough for us. Last two years are totally crazy and sad in the world. Till August we were still in lockdown and the clubs, festivals and dance parties weren’t allowed at all. Then we were banned to dance, which is also changing now (thank god). I can only hope now. At the end we (producers) don’t have any gigs but we do have time to make many tracks in the studio.
