Nuestra siguiente entrevista viene directamente desde Estados Unidos. Cruzamos el charco para conversar sobre muchos aspectos con Lit Lords. ¿Estáis listos?
Desde Loud Cave nos hemos propuesto traeros entrevistas con mayor asiduidad. Creemos que es una sección verdaderamente importante, de la que debemos dar lo mejor de nosotros. Es un auténtico placer acercaros la faceta más personal y pura de los protagonistas de la escena, además de por supuesto desentrañar su música en todos lo segmentos posibles.
Tanto si sois amantes del bass music como si no, Lit Lords trae una corriente de aire fresco digna de admirar. Talento y constancia en un dúo que tiene aún mucho por enseñar. En este caso hemos tenido la suerte de charlar con Isiah, 50% del proyecto. ¡Vamos con la entrevista!
Loud Cave: Antes que nada… ¿Cómo comenzó este proyecto?
Lit Lords: Hola, mi nombre es Isiah, la mitad del proyecto de Lit Lords. Lo gracioso es que el proyecto comenzó seriamente cuando Wade y yo escuchamos el remix de Saymyname a “Trap Arms”. ¡No había visto nunca a Wade correr pero cuando la escuchó saltó de su silla y corrió alrededor de la casa! Cuando finalmente volvió dijo: “si tú puedes hacer eso estoy dentro”. En ese momento habíamos solo estado haciendo pequeños shows juntos, conmigo en el papel de su compañero que se había estado perdiendo muchos de los shows últimamente, pero escuchar ese tema realmente nos motivó ya que era muy diferente y nos mostraba una energía con la que podíamos conectar en ese momento.
LC: First of all … How did this project begin?
LL: Hello, My name is Isiah, ½ of the Lit Lords project. Funny enough, the project began seriously when Wade and I heard Saymyname’s remix of ‘Trap Arms’ Iv’e never seen Wade run before but when he heard it he jumped out of his chair and ran around the house! When he finally came back he said: “If you can do that i’m in.” At the time we had just been doing small shows together with me in place of his partner who had been missing alot of the performances lately, but hearing that record really got us pumped up because it was so different and showed us an energy we could earnestly connect with at the time.
LC: ¿Cómo definirías tu música a alguien que nunca ha escuchado nada de Lit
Lords?
LL: La música de Lit Lods es un viaje, ¡una historia! La música es creada para hacerte mover el cuerpo ya sea con el movimiento de puños de “Louder” o con los bailes exóticos evocados en “Pleasure”. Cualquiera que sea el estilo que muestre en un lanzamiento, en esencia, está hecho para que te muevas y evoques emociones.
LC: How would you define your music to someone who has never heard of Lit Lords?
LL: Lit Lords music is a journey, it’s a story! The music is designed to make your body move whether its the fist pumping action of ‘Louder’ or the exotic dancing evoked in ‘Pleasure’. Whatever the style I showcase in a record, at it’s core, it’s made to make you move and evoke emotion.
LC: Eres considerado por muchos el mejor productor de hard trap. ¿Como ves el
futuro del género?
LL: El “género” de Hard Trap siempre ha tenido algo que demostrar en la industria en cuanto al respaldo de los artistas y el compromiso del sonido dentro de la comunidad global. El futuro del género dependerá de cómo los artistas muestren su versatilidad dentro del sonido. En los últimos años he visto el hard trap no como una música trap que utiliza el siempre popular chillido o elementos hardstyle, sino como un vehículo para poner la música trap encima de la mesa.
La música trap ha tenido una mala reputación desde que fue el catalizador de muchos subgéneros musicales conocidos desde 2012, y ha tomado una posición trasera en popularidad e interacción con el crecimiento del dubstep y sus conocidos espacios en la escena de clubs y festivales, pero confío en que si los artistas pueden ver más allá de lo denominado genéricamente “hard trap”, podrán ver que hay un gran potencial oculto en el sonido que aún no se ha explotado. Solo quiero hacer busca música que puedas ir atrás en 5 años y puedas decir… eso es un gran tema!
LC: You are considered by many to be the best hard trap producer. How do you see the future of the genre?
LL: The “Genre” of Hard Trap has always had something to prove in the industry as far as artist endorsement and engagement of the sound within the global community. The future of the genre is going to depend on the artists in the space showcasing their versatility within the sound. For the last couple of years I’ve seen Hard Trap not as a trap music utilizing the ever popular screech or Hardstyle elements, but as a vehicle to bring heavy hitting Trap MUSIC to the table. Trap music has had a bad rap since being the catalyst for so many popular sub genres since 2012 and has taken a back seat in popularity and engagement with the rise of Dubstep and its popular spaces in the club & Festival scene, but I believe that if artists can see past the generic callings of ‘Hard Trap’ they can see that there is a vast untapped potential to be exploited in the sound. I just want to make great music that you can go back 5 years from now and say: THAT IS A GREAT SONG!
LC: Aprovechando este tema, hemos observado que has estado experimentando
últimamente con otros géneros, como el drum n bass o hardstyle. ¿Es tu idea
asentarte en estos géneros o seguirás con el hard trap como género principal?
LL: No me asiento en ningún lado. Tengo una profunda pasión y apreciación por la música como un todo y me haría un flaco favor tanto a mi como a mis fans si no expandimos nuestro sonido y a la vez mi propia creatividad. Me encanta explorar el mundo del sonido y estoy en un viaje eterno de descubrimiento… Con el toque de Lit Lords por supuesto.
LC: Now that we are talking about this, we have observed that you have been experimenting lately with other genres, such as drum n bass or hardstyle. Is it your idea to settle in these genres or will you continue with hard trap as the main genre?
LL: I’m not settling anywhere. I have a deep passion and appreciation for music as a whole and I would be doing not only myself but my fans a disservice by not expanding on our sound and in turn my own creativity. I love exploring the sonic space and i’m on an everlasting journey of discovery.. With the Lit Lords touch of course.
LC: Hemos observado desde hace tiempo que en las redes sociales solo aparece uno
de los dos integrantes (Isiah) en imágenes, videos, etc… ¿Qué ha pasado
exactamente con el otro miembro del grupo (Wade)?
LL: Wade es una pieza integral del proyecto y de la marca de Lit Lords. Él no va a ningún lado por el momento. Cada uno tenemos nuestras propias fortalezas que hemos consecuentemente puesto encima de la mesa y somos fuertes por ello. Nos mantenemos alejados de los demás y hacemos nuestro trabajo como un todo cohesionado.
Es gracioso porque Wade está en sus cuarentas y yo en mis veintes sin embargo, siempre nos hemos llevado bien como socios de negocios y como amigos. Wade me ha enseñado mucho sobre la vida y siempre está vigilando mi espalda, algo de lo que estoy muy agradecido. En cuanto a la dinámica de nuestros shows en directo, Wade se encarga de todo lo relacionado con pinchar dándome la oportunidad de conectar con los fans, durante nuestros shows de una manera que no muchos shows pueden lograr.
LC: We have observed for a long time that on social networks only one of the two members (Isiah) appears in images, videos, etc … What happened to the other member of the group (Wade)?
LL: Wade is an integral piece to the Lit Lords project and brand. He is not going anywhere anytime soon. We each have our own strengths that we consistently bring to the table and we are strong because of it. We stay out of eachothers way and do our jobs as a cohesive whole. It’s funny because Wade is in his 40’s and I’m in my 20’s yet we have always got along as business partners and as friends. Wade has taught me alot about life and is always watching my back and for that I am grateful. As far as the performance dynamic goes Wade handles all of the Djing of our live performances really allowing me the opportunity to connect with fans during our shows in a way that not many acts can achieve.
LC: ¿Cómo empezó la pasión por el hard trap y cuáles son los principales artistas
que tienes como referencia?
LL: La pasión por el hard trap comenzó con Carnage y Saymyname. Yo siempre los he observado como pioneros en la industria por su carácter, sonido y logros. Como un joven hombre negro es también inspirador ver que en efecto, puedo hacerlo también y tener éxito.
LC: How did the passion for hard trap begin and who are the main artists that you have as a reference?
LL: The passion for Hard Trap started with Carnage and Saymyname. I have always looked up to them as pioneering individuals in the industry because of their character, sound, and achievements. As a young black man It is also inspiring to see that yes, I can do this as well and be successful.
LC: Coméntanos tres artistas que crees que deban tener mayor reconocimiento y
tres artistas que ves con gran futuro.
LL: Soy un gran introvertido en la industria y realmente lo llevo todo para mi mismo pero hay una persona con la que he tenido la oportunidad de conectar y a la que le veo un gran futuro: GRAVEDGR.
LC: Tell us about three artists that you think should have greater recognition and three artists that you see with a great future.
LL: I am a notorious introvert in the industry and really keep to myself but there is one person I have been able to connect with that I see a great future in, namely: GRAVEDGR
LC: ¿Cómo fue el primer contacto con Heavyweight Recordings y cuales son tus
sensaciones tras el primer release (EP) junto a ellos?
LL: He estado viendo crecer a Heavyweight Records desde su comienzo, y siempre me ha ilusionado el movimiento y la marca. Para nosotros siempre fue cuestión de tiempo. Con todos los chicos que firmaron con el sello en 2018 he estado muy conectado y fue emocionante verlos crecer y ver como se presentan oportunidades para el éxito. Siempre he tenido respeto por Carnage, ¡y creo que es mutuo! Estoy contento de haber tenido la oportunidad de lanzar con ellos y estoy emocionado por proyectos en los que quizá trabajemos juntos en el futuro.
LC: How was your first contact with Heavyweight Recordings and what are your feelings after the first release (EP) with them?
LL: I had been watching this Heavyweight Records thing grow since its inception and I had always been excited about the movement and brand. For us it was always just a matter of time. All the guys who got signed to the label back in 2018 I had been real connected with and it was exciting to watch them grow and be presented with opportunities for success. I have always had a respect for Carnage and I believe it is mutual! I’m glad to have had the chance to release with them and I’m excited for projects we may work together on in the future.
LC: De todos los temas que has producido, ¿a cuál le tienes más cariño y por qué?
LL: Estoy realmente orgulloso de la música que he sacado este año (2020). Porque me he desafiado a mí mismo y a mi sonido. He ido más allá de lo establecido y demostrado a la comunidad global que hay más en esto de lo que nos han enseñado hasta ahora. Dicho esto, una de mis canciones favoritas que he producido es “Pleasure” por su versatilidad. En cuanto a todo, uno de mis temas favoritos de los que he formado parte fue “Aow La Woii” de Twopee. Esa canción realmente llevó su carrera a un nivel superior y él junto con los colectivos Thaitanium y Southside siempre han sido buenos conmigo.
LC: Of all the songs you’ve produced, which one are you most proud of and why?
LL: I am really proud of the music I have brought to the table this year (2020). Because I tested myself and my sound. I pushed the norm and showed the global community that there’s more to this than what has been presented thus far. With that said, one of my favorite songs Iv’e produced is Pleasure because of it’s versatility. As far as as a whole, one of my favorite records to have been apart of was Twopee’s ‘Aow La Woii’ That song really took his career up a notch and he along with the Thaitanium and Southside acts have always been good to me.
LC: Hemos visto que sueles hacer pocas colaboraciones. ¿Algo importante que
revelar?
LL: Soy realmente quisquilloso y firme creyente de la energía. Cuando me siento a trabajar estoy preparado para trabajar y sólo quiero trabajar, trabajar, trabajar. La música es un sincero método de diversión y alivio para mí. No me gusta esperar días o semanas a que la gente haga su parte, y tampoco veo mucho beneficio en relacionarme con muchos artistas en estos tiempos. ¡Hay mucha falsa energía y necesito mantener mi espíritu limpio! Si nuestra energía coincide y hay un PLAN actuaré. La música es algo que puedo hacer y entender con confianza, el momento sólo necesita ser el correcto.
LC: We have seen that you usually do few collaborations. Something important to reveal?
LL: I’m really just picky and a strong believer of energy. When I sit down to work I am read to work and I want to work work work. Music is a sincere method of fun and relief for me. I don’t like waiting days or weeks for people to do their part or get back to something and I also jus don’t see much benefit to engaging with many artists because theres not much in it for artists these days and there is alot of fake energy and I need to keep my spirit clean! If the energy matches up and there is a PLAN I will act, music is something I can confidently do and understand, the moment just needs to be right.
LC: Teniendo en cuenta la calidad que ofrece Lit Lords, ¿Por qué no solemos ver
en los grandes escenarios de festivales a Lit Lords?
LL: Ya sabes jajaja, realmente no lo se. Creo que es política. Nos movemos por nosotros mismos para bien o para mal. Nosotros no chupamos pollas ni besamos culos para subir de nivel y nada se nos ha dado nunca en bandeja de plata. Quiero un equipo de personas que se dediquen al proyecto con una mentalidad ganadora. Llegaremos allí, paso a paso, los fanáticos nos mantendrán en el juego.
LC: Considering the quality that Lit Lords offers, why don’t we often see Lit Lords on the big festival stages?
LL: Ya know, hahah, I actually don’t know. I think it’s politics. We move on our own for better or for worse. We will not suck dick or kiss ass for a level up and nothing has ever been handed to us on a silver platter. I want a team of people who are devoted to the project with a mindset of domination. We will get there, one step at a time the fans will keep us in the game.
LC: Aprovechando este parón, en Europa tienes muchos fans… ¿Te gustaría actuar
por esta zona?
LL: Me encantaría actuar en Europa, tenía planeado actuar en Italia en RELOAD festival en febrero, justo antes de que la pandemia estallara y fue un gran fastidio. La energía es simplemente diferente en el otro lado del charco, me encanta.
LC: Taking advantage of this COVID-19 break, in Europe you have many fans … Would you like to perform in this area?
LL: I would love to perform in Europe, I was supposed to perform at Italy’s RELOAD festival in February right before the pandemic breakout and it was a huge bummer. Energy is just different across the pond, I love it.
LC: ¿Cómo ha afectado toda esta situación provocada por el COVID-19 a tu música teniendo en cuenta que obviamente no hay shows? ¿Cómo has gestionado todos estos meses de parón?
LL: Este parón por COVID me ha hecho mejor como persona, como humano y como creador. Soy un hombre hogareño por lo que realmente nada ha cambiado para mí! jajaja
LC: How has affected all this COVID-19 situation affected your music beyond the fact that there are obviously no shows? How do you manage all these months of break?
LL: This COVID break has made me better, as a human, as a man, and as a creator. Im pretty much a homebody so nothing has really changed for me! Haha
