En esta ocasión charlamos con Luca Schreiner, joven productor y DJ que nos habla sobre su exitosa carrera, su forma de trabajo, sus planes, ¡y más!
Loud Cave: ¡Hola Luca! Es un placer para nosotros tenerte hoy en la cueva. Primero de todo, nos gustaría que te presentaras a nuestro público y nos contaras un poco de tu historia desde los comienzos hasta donde estás hoy en día, etc.
Luca Schreiner: Hola chicos, soy Luca Schreiner, un DJ y productor alemán de 24 años. Me adentré en la música electrónica desde muy joven, desde que mi padre dirigía una distribuidora especializada principalmente en música electrónica. Después de ver vídeos de Tiësto actuando en frente de miles de personas, agotando entradas en estadios, quise ser un DJ también y empecé a producir. Durante el tiempo he tenido la oportunidad de lanzar remixes oficiales de artistas como Alessia Cara, James Arthur, Kelly Clarkson, Clean Bandit ¡y más! Estos remixes básicamente me abrieron las puertas de mi propio crecimiento musical. Después firmé con Ultra Music y lancé también mis propios temas.
Loud Cave: Hello Luca! It’s a pleasure for us to have you today in the cave. First of all, we would like you to introduce yourself to our public, tell us a little bit of your history from your beginnings to where you are today,etc.
Luca Schreiner: Hey guys, I’m Luca Schreiner a 24 years old DJ & producer from Germany. I’ve got into electronic music from a very young age on, since my dad runs a music distribution company which is mainly specialized in electronic music. After I saw videos of Tiesto performing in front of thousands of people, selling out stadium shows, I wanted to become a DJ too and started producing. Over the time I had the chance to release official remixes for the likes of Alessia Cara, James Arthur, Kelly Clarkson, Clean Bandit and more! These remixes basically opened the door for my own original music. I then got signed to Ultra Music and released my own songs too.
LC: ¿Cómo ha ido evolucionando tu sonido durante todos estos años? ¿Cuáles han sido tus influencias musicales y qué has obtenido de ellas?
LS: Empecé a producir música más orientada a los clubs en mis comienzos, lo que fue divertido. Durante los años pienso que mi sonido ha cambiado a un ambiente más comercial y amigable para las radios, mientras que he mantenido algunos elementos dance y electrónicos en mis canciones.
LC: How it’s been evolving your sound during all these years? What have been your musical influences and what have you obtained from them?
LS: I started producing more club orientated music in the beginning, which was fun. Over the years though my sound has changed to a more commercial and radio- friendly vibe, while still keeping some dance and electronic vibes in my songs.
LC: Podemos observar que tu música va desde por debajo de los 100 bpm hasta más de los 120. ¿De qué depende normalmente que un tema funcione mejor en un bpm o en otro? ¿Qué te hace decidir trabajar en un bpm bajo o en uno alto?
LS: A menudo el tempo está ya seleccionado durante el proceso de escritura de la canción, así que como productor no tienes la flexibilidad de seleccionar tu propio tempo después de eso. Creo que tener una variedad de diferentes tracks en tu repertorio y mostrarle a la gente que eres capaz de siempre traer algo fresco y nuevo, es algo que realmente me gusta hacer, y jugar con diferentes tempos es definitivamente una gran manera de demostrar eso.
LC: We can see that your music goes from below 100 bpm to more than 120. What usually depends on a track working better at one bpm or another? What makes you decide to work in a low bpm or a high one?
LS: Often the tempo is already set during the songwriting process, so as a producer you won’t have the flexibility to set your own tempo after that. I think having a variety of different tracks in your arsenal and showing people that you’re capable of always bringing in something fresh and new, is something that I really like doing and playing with different tempo is definitely one great way to do that.
LC: Tus remixes se han vuelto muy populares, alcanzando millones y millones de reproducciones. ¿Por qué crees que a la gente le gusta tanto?
LS: Creo que mis remixes han funcionado tan bien por el hecho de que siempre intento mantener la esencia del tema original mientras intento aportar algo fresco que ponga la canción original hacia otra dirección. Creo que mis remixes no suenan necesariamente como “típicos” remixes, sino que suenan más como producciones alternativas de un tema que ya funciona muy bien, lo que lo hace funcionar muy bien como remix pero también como tema original.
LC: Your remixes have turned very popular, gaining millions and millions of streams. Why do you think the people like them that much?
LS: I think my remixes have worked out that well because of the fact that I always try to stay close to the original vibe of the song while still trying to bring in something fresh that puts the original tune into a different direction. I think my remixes doesn’t necessarily sound like „typical“ remixes, in a way they sound more like alternative productions of an already great working song, which would work either way as remix but also as the original production.
LC: ¿Qué significa para ti haber firmado por Ultra Records y Guesstimate? ¿Significa que al haber firmado por ellos puedes colaborar o remezclar a mejores artistas que antes?
LS: ¡Desde luego! Ultra especialmente me ha abierto un montón de puertas al comienzo de mi carrera. Debido a los remixes que hice para ellos, por ejemplo, para OMI, contacté con otros sellos y artistas que de pronto querían que les hiciera remixes a ellos también.
LC: What means for you to be signed to Ultra Records and Guesstimate? Has your labels meant that you can collaborate or remix better artists than before?
LS: Absolutely! Especially Ultra has opened a lot of doors for me in the beginning of my career. Due to the first remixes I did for them, i.e. for OMI, I got in touch with other labels and artists who suddenly wanted me to do a remixes for them too.
LC: Has pinchado en muchos festivales recientemente con grandes artistas. ¿Cuáles han sido tus favoritos? ¿Ha habido algún momento que te haya marcado profesionalmente?
LS: Creo que cuando se trata de festivales y si tuviese que elegir uno como mi favorito, diría: World Club Dome. Era un festival en el que siempre quise pinchar cuando era un adolescente. El tener la posibilidad de abrir el mainstage (en un estadio de fútbol) para artistas como marshmello, Robin Schulz y más tan sólo cuatro años después de haber sido un asistente más del festival fue una sensación increíble.
LC: You have been mixing in several festivals recently with big artists. Which ones have been your favorite? Has there been any moment that marked you professionally?
LS: I think when it comes to festivals and if I would have to pick one as my favorite, I’d say: World Club Dome. It was a festival I always wanted to play on when I was a teenager. To be able to open the mainstage (in a football stadium) for artists such as Marshmello, Robin Schulz and more only 4 years after first being a visitor of the festival, was a crazy feeling.
LC: Eres muy joven y ya has tenido mucho éxito en tu carrera. ¿Qué planes tienes a corto y largo plazo? ¿Cómo te gustaría que se desarrollara tu carrera?
LS: Mi plan es lanzar música de un estilo más original que antes. En los últimos años sólo trabajé en muchos remixes, para artistas pequeños pero también para grandes artistas de nuestro planeta, lo cual es surrealista para mí, pero creo que ya es hora de centrarme en mi propia música otra vez y mostrarle a la gente mi idea sobre la música.
LC: You are quite young and your career has been very successful so far. What plans have you in short and long term? How would you like your career todevelop?
LS: My plan is to release way more original music than before. In the past few years I just worked on so many remixes, for smaller artists but also for some of the biggest artists on our planet, which is still surreal for me, but I think now it’s time to focus on my own music again and show people my idea of music.
LC: ¿Hay algún tema, colaboración o show a la vista del que nos puedas hablar?
LS: ¡Tengo un nuevo tema que sale el 30 de agosto y por el cual estoy muy emocionado! Se llama “Tomorrow” y cuenta con las vocales del artista estadounidense Adam Turley. “Tomorrow” es más bien un tema ‘pop’ en relación con lo que he hecho antes y tengo curiosidad de ver lo que la gente pensará de este nuevo estilo que últimamente he disfrutado mucho produciendo. ¡También hemos grabado un videoclip para el tema cerca del lago Como en Italia, lo cual es fantástico!
LC: Is there any new upcoming track, collaboration or show that you can tell us about?
LS: I have a new track coming out on August 30th which I’m super excited for! It’s called „Tomorrow“ and it features the vocals of US based artist Adam Turley. „Tomorrow“ is quiet more of a „Pop“ tune, than what I’ve ever did before and I’m curious to see what people will think of this new style that I’ve really liked producing lately. We’ve also shot a music video for it near Lake Como in Italy, which was great!
