¡Hola cavernícolas! En esta nueva entrevista de hard charlamos con Adjuzt, uno de los productores de raw que más rápido está creciendo dentro de la escena

Loud Cave: Hola Maikel, ¡es un placer tenerte hoy con nosotros en la cueva! Antes de comenzar con las preguntas, queríamos saber qué tal ha sido para ti el inicio de 2023 a nivel musical.

Adjuzt: Gracias por recibirme, ¡es un placer! El comienzo de 2023 ha sido increíble hasta ahora. Todo lo que soñé hace años se está cumpliendo, y me siento genial. Desde tocar en el X-Qlusive de Rebelion hasta mi primer directo en NXTGEN; ha sido un viaje salvaje y duro, pero encantador.

Loud Cave: Hello Maikel, it’s a pleasure to have you with us today in the cave! Before we start with the questions, we wanted to know how has been for you the beginning of 2023 musically.

Adjuzt: Thanks for having me, it’s a pleasure! The beginning of 2023 has been amazing so far. Everything I dreamt of years ago are now happening, and it feels great. From playing on the X-Qlusive of Rebelion, to playing my very first NXTGEN live-act; it’s been a wild and heavy, but lovely ride.

LC: ¿De dónde viene Adjuzt, tu nombre artístico?

A: Se me ocurre una historia interesante para escribir aquí, pero por desgracia fue un proceso rápido. Tenía que pensar en un nombre, así que fui a una especie de lista de todo tipo de términos del ejército americano buscando un nombre que empezara por una letra al principio del alfabeto. Adjust fue una de las primeras palabras que aparecieron, y decidí que sería ese. Por aquel entonces todavía se llevaba escribir todos los nombres de hardstyle con Z, así que cambié Adjust por Adjuzt.

LC: Where does Adjuzt, your stage name, come from?

A: I can definitely think of a whole interesting story to write here, but unfortunately it was kind of a quick process. I had to think of a name, so I went to some sort of list of all kinds of american army terms, and I was looking for a name that started with a letter at the start of the alphabet. Adjust was one of the first words that came up, and I decided that was going to be it. Back then it was also still a thing to have written every hardstyle name with a Z, so I changed Adjust to Adjuzt.

LC: ¿Cómo surgió tu pasión por la música hard? ¿Has recibido algún tipo de formación para hacer música?

A: Mi increíble padre solía ser DJ en sus tiempos mozos, y yo siempre me sentaba a su lado cuando estaba ocupado haciendo mezclas. A partir de ahí surgió mi interés por el DJing y la producción. En 2011 decidió instalar FL Studio en su ordenador, pero en lugar de ser él quien probaba cosas, era yo quien lo abría e intentaba hacer música. Creo que mi pasión por producir empezó realmente ahí. He aprendido todo yo mismo, pero estudié diseño de sonido en 2016 para intentar convertirme en un profesional.

LC: How did your passion for hard music come about? Have you received any kind of training to make music?

A: My amazing father used to be a DJ back in his younger days, and I always sat next to him when he was busy making mixes. From there on out my interest in DJ’ing and producing came to light. In 2011 he decided to put FL Studio on his computer, but instead of him trying stuff out, I was actually the one opening it and trying to make music. I think my passion for producing really started there. I’ve teached everything myself, but I went to study sound design in 2016 to try to become a professional.

LC: A pesar de que tus primeros lanzamientos se remontan tan solo al año 2017, actualmente eres uno de los máximos exponentes del raw a nivel mundial. ¿Te esperabas esta repercusión?

A: Obviamente cuando eres más joven definitivamente sueñas con que estas cosas sucedan, pero nunca en mi vida pensaría que me sucederían a mí. A veces todavía no me doy cuenta realmente de lo lejos que ha llegado mi crecimiento. He estado hablando con gente a la que admiraba desde hace años, y eso todavía es algo bastante surrealista .

LC: Despite the fact that your first releases date back only to 2017, you are currently one of the top exponents of raw scene. Did you expect this repercussion?

A: Obviously when you’re younger you definitely dream of these things happening, but never in my life would I think these things would happen to me. Sometimes I still don’t really realize how far my growth has gone. I’ve been talking to people I’ve looked up to for years and that is still something pretty surreal.

LC: Antiguamente lanzabas música por sellos como Overwatch Music o Hard Tactical Records. Sin embargo; en 2021 te uniste a Savage Squad Recordings, un label en el que también se encuentran DJs como The Purge, PL4Y, Griever u Omnya. ¿Qué distingue a este sello dentro de la escena? ¿Cómo ha cambiado tu carrera desde que te uniste a él?

A: Creo que Savage se distingue de otros sellos porque no trabajamos de forma ordinaria. Intentamos hacer cosas que nadie ha hecho antes en todos los aspectos del juego. Tampoco somos realmente colegas como se ve en la mayoría de los sellos; somos un grupo bastante unido de amigos que se apoyan mutuamente en todo lo que hacen. Parece que a la gente le gusta cómo hacemos las cosas, y eso es lo que nos ha llevado al nivel en el que estamos. Mi carrera ha cambiado desde que me uní a Savage, sencillamente porque sin su aportación, ayuda y confianza, no estaría donde estoy hoy. Tengo mucho que agradecerles. Hoy en día ya no se trata sólo de la música, sino también de la marca que la respalda, y yo no podría haberlo hecho solo.

LC: You used to release music on labels like Overwatch Music or Hard Tactical Records. However; in 2021 you joined Savage Squad Recordings, a label that also features DJs like The Purge, PL4Y, Griever or Omnya. What distinguishes this label within the scene? How has your career changed since you joined it?

A: I think Savage distinguishes itself from other labels because we’re not working in an ordinary way. We try to do things nobody has done before in every aspect of the game. We are also not really colleagues like you see in most labels; we are a pretty close group of friends now supporting each other in everything we do. People seem to enjoy the way we do things, and that’s what got us to the level we are. My career has changed since joining Savage simply because without their input, help and trust, I would not have been where I am today. I have a lot to thank them for. Nowadays it’s not just all about the music anymore, but also the branding behind it, and I could not have done that on my own.

LC: Podríamos decir que desde el lanzamiento de ‘Bass Criminal Remix’ (un release en Gearbox Digital que cuenta con más de 1.200.000 visualizaciones en Spotify), tu nombre aparece en todos lados. De hecho, alcanzaste el puesto 39 en el top 100 Q-dance 2022 con ‘Echoes’, colaboraste en el LP de Bloodlust con ‘Samurave Remix’ y lo estás petando con ‘LOVESICK’, ‘SELF DESTRUCTION’ y ‘Summer Secrets’. ¿Cómo está siendo esto para ti?

A: Todavía no me puedo creer que acabara en el puesto 39 del top 100 Q-dance de 2022. El impacto que ese tema ha tenido no solo en mí, sino en tantas otras personas, me supera. Esperemos que haya aún más por venir.

LC: We could say that since the release of ‘Bass Criminal Remix’ (a release on Gearbox Digital that counts more than 1,200,000 views on Spotify), your name is everywhere. In fact, you reached #39 on the top 100 Q-dance 2022 with ‘Echoes’, you collaborated on Bloodlust’s LP with ‘Samurave Remix’ and you’re blowing it up with ‘LOVESICK’, ‘SELF DESTRUCTION’ and ‘Summer Secrets’. How do you feel about that?

A: I still can’t believe I actually ended up at #39 of the Q-dance top 100 of 2022. The impact that track has made on not just me, but so many other people, beyonds me. Let’s hope there is even more to come.

LC: Tu collab ‘OUTRAGE’ junto a Exproz es uno de los tracks de rawstyle más duros y extremos que hemos oído nunca. ¿Vas a optar por seguir lanzando pistas tan potentes de XTRA RAW, o quieres incluir también partes más melódicas?

A: Sí, definitivamente seguiré haciendo esos tracks de raw extremos, pero siempre he querido incluir más melodías en mis temas, ya que creo que es uno de mis puntos fuertes (que rara vez había utilizado antes). Por eso, como habréis notado, mis temas son cada vez menos duros. Esa es también una de las razones por las que tengo mi live-act de NXTGEN, en el que no tengo límites y busco ese ambiente extremo que he tenido con temas como ‘OUTRAGE’.

LC: Your collab ‘OUTRAGE’ with Exproz is one of the hardest and most extreme rawstyle tracks we’ve ever heard. Are you going to choose to keep releasing such powerful XTRA RAW tracks, or do you want to include more melodic parts as well?

A: Yes! I will definitely keep making those extreme raw tracks, but I’ve always wanted to include more melodies in my tracks as I feel like that is also one of my strong assets (I rarely ever used for my tracks before). Therefore, as you might have noticed, my tracks are becoming a bit less extreme. That’s also one of the reasons why I have my NXTGEN live-act, where I don’t really have boundaries and I’m going for that extreme vibe I’ve had with tracks like ‘OUTRAGE’.

LC: Después de escuchar tu sesión para el X-Qlusive de Rebelion, sabemos que tienes una ID preparada con Gary y Raymond. Además, destacamos tu última colaboración con Warface. ¿Cómo está siendo para ti colaborar con nombres tan grandes?

A: Increíble. Hace años admiraba a estos tipos, y ahora estoy en el estudio con ellos. Para mí es algo recurrente hablar con las leyendas de la escena, pero en algún lugar dentro de mí esa sensación de encontrarme con mis héroes sigue ahí, ¡jaja!

LC: After listening to your set for Rebelion’s X-Qlusive, we know you have an ID prepared with Gary and Raymond. We also highlight your latest collaboration with Warface. How is it being for you to collaborate with such big names?

A: Incredible. Years ago I used to look up to these guys, and now I’m in the studio with them. For me it’s now a regular recurring thing to speak with the legends of the scene, but somewhere inside of me that feeling of meeting my heroes are still there haha!

LC: En tu SoundCloud podemos encontrar bootlegs que cuentan con muchas views (véanse ‘Red Lips’, ‘Chicken Soup’ o ‘Barbie Girl’). ¿Vas a seguir sacando canciones no oficiales?

A: Todavía no estoy seguro. Puede que en el futuro publique un EP en mi SoundCloud, donde cuelgo la mayoría de mis bootlegs inéditos.

LC: In your SoundCloud we can find bootlegs that have many views (see ‘Red Lips’, ‘Chicken Soup’ or ‘Barbie Girl’). Are you going to keep releasing unofficial songs?

A: I’m not really sure yet. I might release an EP in the future on my SoundCloud, where I drop most of my unreleasable bootlegs.

LC: Uno de los elementos que más caracterizan tu música son los kicks. ¿Tienes pensado ponerles algún nombre? ¿Te costó mucho llegar a diseñar un bombo con tanta personalidad?

A: Por ahora sigo pensando que los kicks que he hecho son simplemente gated y no tengo ni idea de cómo llamarlos de otro modo. Tal vez hammer kicks podría funcionar, ya que el bombo de ‘Bass Criminal’ suena como un martillo golpeando algo. Siempre es difícil crear algo único. Tienes que encontrar la manera de diferenciarte de los demás, y estoy contento de haber encontrado un estilo que no se había hecho antes. El kick de ‘Bass Criminal’ lo hice en 2019 (golpeando un bloque de madera en mi escritorio y grabándolo), pero en ese entonces no estaba seguro de si sonaba bien, así que no lo usé durante dos años y medio. ¿Os imagináis?

LC: One of the most characteristic elements of your music are the kicks. Do you plan to name them? Did you find it hard to design a kick with so much personality?

A: As for now, I still think the kicks I’ve made are simply gated and I have no idea how to call them otherwise. Maybe hammer kicks could work, as the ‘Bass Criminal’ kick kind of sounds like a hammer hitting something! It’s always a difficult process coming up with something unique. You gotta find some ways to differentiate yourself from others, and I’m happy I’ve found a style that hadn’t been done before. That ‘Bass Criminal’ kick I’ve actually made all the way back in 2019 (by hitting a wooden block on my desk and recording that), but wasn’t sure back then if it even sounded good, so I didn’t use it for about 2,5 years. Can you imagine?

LC: ¿Escucharemos algún álbum/EP de Adjuzt próximamente?

A: Me temo que no en un futuro próximo. Trabajo de una forma muy rara, lo que me impide hacer muchos temas en poco tiempo (el EP Exploration me llevó unos 6 meses, y tenía sólo 5 temas). Algún día haré un EP, pero por ahora me limitaré a singles y colaboraciones.

LC: Will we listen to any Adjuzt album/EP soon?

A: I’m afraid not in the near future. I work in a very weird way, which kind of keeps me from being able to make a lot of tracks in a shorter amount of time (that Exploration EP took me about 6 months, and that for just 5 tracks). I will definitely do an EP someday, but for now I’m keeping it to solo’s and collabs.

LC: ¿Cómo te definirías en cabina?

A: Me gusta bailar, sentir la música que he hecho y oír las reacciones del público. Para mí es muy importante compartir la misma energía que el público, y como DJ, tu trabajo no es sólo pinchar música, sino también entretener y divertirte con él. Al ser tan activo en el escenario, creo que el público se apropia de mi energía.

LC: How is Adjuzt DJing?

A: I like to dance, I like to feel the music I’ve made and I like to hear the reactions of the crowd. For me it’s really important to share the same energy as the crowd, and as a DJ, it’s not only your job to play music, but also entertain and have fun with the crowd. By being so active on stage, I really think the crowd takes over my energy.

LC: Ahora te planteamos algunas preguntas cortas.

LC: Los tres festivales/eventos en los que más ganas tienes de pinchar.

A: En realidad no me gusta más uno que otro, ¡me divierto en todas partes sin importar el tamaño! Pero si realmente tengo que elegir, lo haré sencillo y diré Intents, Defqon.1 y Dominator.

LC: Now we ask you some short questions.

LC: The three festivals/events where you are most looking forward to play.

A: I don’t really like one more than the other, I have fun everywhere no matter the size. But if I really have to choose, I’ll keep it simple and say Intents, Defqon.1 and Dominator.

LC: Tres artistas con los que te encantaría colaborar.

A: Bloodlust, D-Sturb y Headhunterz.

LC: ¿Tienes pensado sacar algún track de hardcore/uptempo?

A: Sí, tengo una colaboración con Abaddon que está a punto de terminar, y otra con otro DJ de hardcore que todavía no puedo nombrar.

LC: Do you plan to release any hardcore/uptempo tracks?

A: Yes! I have a collab with Abaddon which is close to being finished, and another with other hardcore DJ I can’t name yet.

LC: ¿Te gustan géneros electrónicos que se alejen del hard?

A: A menudo escucho drum and bass, pero también música big band de los años 50 y 60.

LC: Do you like electronic genres that move away from hard?

A: I often listen to drum and bass, but also to very lovely 50s and 60s big band music.

LC: ¿Pinchar o producir?

A: Creo que tendré que decir producir. Por mucho que me guste pinchar, sin poder crear mi propia música no estaría donde estoy.

LC: DJing or producing?

A: I think I’ll have to say producing. As much as I love to DJ, without being able to create my own music I wouldn’t be where I am today.

LC: El tema hecho por ti al que más cariño le tienes.

A: ¡’LOVESICK’! De hecho, hice el tema en febrero de 2022 y lo publiqué casi exactamente un año después; el hecho de que siga siendo tan relevante demuestra lo adelantado a su tiempo que era para mí. Además, obviamente tengo que decir ‘Echoes’ y ‘Levitate’; lo que esos temas hicieron por mí como artista es una locura.

LC: The track made by you that you are most fond of.

A: ‘LOVESICK’! I actually made the track in February 2022 before releasing it almost exactly a year later, and for it to still be so relevant shows how ahead of its time it was for myself. Also, I obviously have to say ‘Echoes’ and ‘Levitate’; what those tracks did for me as an artist is insane.

LC: Artistas de hard que creas que están infravalorados.

A: Se me ocurren unos cuantos. Obviamente, mis chicos Omnya, Griever y PL4Y. Han estado haciendo auténticos temazos, y ver a Omnya y Griever llenar el escenario de REBiRTH demuestra que por fin están recibiendo el reconocimiento que merecen. También tengo que mencionar a Exproz. Este tipo hace música que está en un nivel que supera lo extremo, ¡y eso que es un dulce francés con voz suave!

LC: Hard music artists that you think are underrated.

A: I can think of a few immediately. Obviously, my boys Omnya, Griever and PL4Y. They’ve been pooping out some absolute bangers, and to see Omnya and Griever fill up the stage at REBiRTH shows they’re finally getting the recognition they deserve. Also, Exproz is someone I have to mention. This guy makes music that is on a different level of “extreme”, and that for a sweet softspoken french guy!

LC: Tus hobbies aparte de la música.

A: Sinceramente, no tengo ninguno. Esto es básicamente todo lo que hago en mi vida ahora jajaja.

LC: Your hobbies apart from music.

A: Honestly, I have none. This is basically all I do in my live now hahaha. 

LC: Por último, ¿quieres decirle algo a todos los fans que tienes en España?

A: ¡Hola amigos! ¡He estado recibiendo un montón de mensajes y apoyo de la gente de España, y realmente lo aprecio! Estoy deseando ir pronto. Muchas gracias leyendas xx.
