En la primera entrevista de hard de 2023 viajamos a los Países Bajos para charlar con un dúo compuesto por dos jóvenes productores que están dando mucho de lo que hablar en la escena del raw

Loud Cave: Hola chicos, ¡bienvenidos a Loud Cave! Antes de comenzar con la entrevista, nos gustaría decir que es un auténtico placer poder charlar con dos artistas que están revolucionando por completo la escena del raw. Contadnos, ¿cómo estáis viviendo estas semanas de cambios importantes en vuestra carrera?

Dual Damage: En este momento de nuestras vidas parece que estamos viviendo un sueño, sinceramente. ¡Todo va muy rápido! Es imposible comprender todo lo que hemos conseguido en tan poco tiempo. Sin embargo; esto no nos va a frenar para seguir trabajando muy duro y lograr aún más de nuestros objetivos para 2023. Para resumir nuestra forma de vida estas últimas semanas: ¡muy ocupadas, pero también muy divertidas! Jaja.

Loud Cave: Hey guys, welcome to Loud Cave! Before we start with the interview, we would like to say that it is a real pleasure to be able to chat with two artists who are completely revolutionizing the raw scene. Tell us, how are you living these weeks of important changes in your career?

Dual Damage: In this moment of our lives it feels like we’re living in a dream, honestly. Everything is going so fast! It’s impossible to grasp all we have accomplished in such a short period of time. This won’t hold us back though to continue working extremely hard and accomplishing even more of our goals for 2023. To sum up our way of living these last few weeks; extremely busy, but also extremely fun! Haha.

LC: Sabemos que uno de vosotros (Backfire) lleva sacando música bastante tiempo en sellos como Unfold Records o Upcoming Records. ¿Cómo os conocisteis? ¿Por qué empezasteis a producir juntos?

DD: La verdad es que es una historia bastante divertida. Somos amigos desde hace mucho tiempo y siempre hemos compartido una gran pasión por la escena raw. Después de 4 años sin tener contacto entre nosotros, Thijs (Backfire) me envió (Jesper) algo de música nueva en la que estaba trabajando en el estudio. Me pareció que sonaba muy bien, y le propuse que nos pasáramos por su estudio para trabajar juntos en un tema. De eso hace ya 3 años, y desde entonces hemos trabajado juntos a nivel musical. También se nos ocurrió la idea de organizar juntos un evento llamado ‘Get Wrecked’. Ahí es donde nació Dual Damage y donde conseguimos nuestros primeros fans.

LC: We know that one of you (Backfire) has been releasing music for quite some time on labels like Unfold Records or Upcoming Records. How did you meet? Why did you start producing together?

DD: That is actually a pretty funny story. We already know each other for a long time as friends, and always have shared a great passion for the raw scene. After 4 years of not having contact with each other, Thijs (Backfire) sent me (Jesper) some new music he was working in the studio. I thought it sounded really good, and suggested to stop by his studio to work on a track together! That was 3 years ago from today, and ever since we’ve worked on music together. We also came with the idea to organize an event together called ‘Get Wrecked’. This is where Dual Damage was born and where we gained our first fans!

LC: Os presentáis al público con casco y chaleco de obrero. ¿Por qué habéis decidido recurrir a esta peculiar vestimenta?

DD: Empezó como una broma tonta, simplemente porque los obreros de construcción representan la “demolición”, y eso es también lo que queremos hacer con nuestros temas en el escenario. Actualmente estamos trabajando con el equipo de Limitless Agency para profesionalizar un poco este concepto, así que no lo perdáis de vista online y en el escenario próximamente 😉

LC: You present yourselves to the public with a helmet and a worker’s vest, why did you decide to wear this peculiar outfit?

DD: It started as a silly joke, simply because construction workers represent ‘demolition’ for us, and that is also what we want to do with our tracks on stage. We are currently working with the Limitless Agency team to professionalize this concept a bit, so be sure to keep an eye out for this online and on stage soon 😉

LC: Vuestro nombre artístico hace referencia a la locura que transmite vuestra música. Para quien no os conozca, ¿cómo definiríais el estilo con el que estáis trabajando actualmente?

DD: ¡Es cierto! Jaja. Producimos XTRA RAW original con kicks únicos, kick rolls sorprendentes y mucho drive en nuestra música.

LC: Your stage name refers to the madness that your music transmits. For those who don’t know you, how would you define the style you are currently working with?

DD: That’s true! Haha. We produce original XTRA RAW hardstyle with unique kicks, surprising kick rolls and lots of drive in our music.

LC: Holanda es el país en el que más se valora la música hard. Teniendo en cuenta la inmensa cantidad de productores que sacan música a diario, está claro que para destacar hay que ofrecer un producto único. ¿Qué creéis que tiene Dual Damage para gustarle tanto a la gente?

DD: Dual Damage es sinónimo de kicks divertidos, duros y únicos. Nos gusta creer que nuestros fans adoran a Dual Damage porque vamos un poco en contra de lo que se estila en la escena. Creamos nuestro propio hype y creemos que la gente se siente identificada con él.

LC: Holland is the country where hard music is most valued. Considering the huge amount of producers that release music every day, it is clear that to stand out you have to offer a unique product. What do you think Dual Damage has to make people like you so much?

DD: Dual Damage stands for fun, hard and unique kicks. We like to believe that our fans love Dual Damage because we kind of go against the current hypes in the scene! We create our own hype and we feel that people can really relate to that.

LC: De momento, vuestro único lanzamiento oficial es ‘Total Demolition’ junto a BMBERJCK & MC Syqnal, el anthem del Get Wrecked 2023. Sin embargo; en vuestro SoundCloud encontramos varios edits muy interesantes a canciones de Act Of Rage, Warface o Rebelion. ¿Vais a optar más por lanzar temas oficiales o por sacar edits/bootlegs?

DD: En este momento nos estamos centrando en los lanzamientos oficiales y muy pronto saldrá un nuevo release en Spotify. Además, ya hay muchas otras canciones previstas para lanzamientos oficiales. Aseguraos de estar atentos a escuchar un remix muy chulo para un artista de Gearbox Digital 😉

LC: At the moment, your only official release is ‘Total Demolition’ with BMBERJCK & MC Syqnal, the anthem of Get Wrecked 2023 . However; in your SoundCloud we found several very interesting edits to songs by Act Of Rage, Warface or Rebelion. Are you going to opt more for releasing official tracks or for releasing edits/bootlegs?

DD: We are focusing on official releases at the moment, and very soon a new release will be coming out on Spotify. Besides that, there are already multiple other tracks planned for official releases as well! Make sure you keep your eyes open for a certain very cool remix for an artist from Gearbox Digital 😉

LC: Respecto a vuestro futuro, ¿tenéis pensado seguir en Unfold o queréis firmar por otro label?

DD: Sólo Thijs (Backfire) ha firmado con Unfold Records. Con Dual Damage estamos manteniendo todas nuestras opciones abiertas y veremos qué tema encaja mejor con cada sello. En una etapa posterior podremos optar por encontrar un sello que se adapte a todas nuestras necesidades, pero no hay prisa.

LC: Regarding your future, do you plan to continue with Unfold or do you want to sign for another label?

DD: Only Thijs (Backfire) is signed to Unfold Records. With Dual Damage we’re keeping all our options opened and seeing which track fits best with which label. At a later stage we can potentially choose to find one label that suits all our needs, but there is no rush.

LC: Uno de los elementos más significativos de vuestra música son los kickrolls. Tenéis un don para jugar con las tonalidades, frecuencias y pausas de los kicks. ¿Qué es un PVC kick? ¿Os ha costado mucho llegar a distinguir este tipo de kick?

DD: Jajaja ¡Nos encanta! Algunas personas empezaron a decir que nuestro kick sonaba como golpear un tubo de PVC. Es un bombo específico que empezamos a utilizar cada vez más en nuestros temas. Sinceramente, lo creamos simplemente jugando y divirtiéndonos en FL Studio y, de repente, ¡nació el PVC kick!

LC: One of the most significant elements of your music are the kickrolls. You have a gift for playing with the tonalities, frequencies and pauses of the kicks. What is a PVC kick? Did you find it hard to distinguish this kind of kick?

DD: Hahaha love it! Some people started saying that our kick sounded like hitting a PVC tube. It’s a specific kick we started using more and more in our tracks. Honestly, it was created by just simply messing around / having fun in FL Studio and, all of a sudden, the PVC kick was born!

LC: Hace poco anunciasteis vuestra inclusión en Limitless Agency, una importante agencia que representa a grandes DJs como Riot Shift, Thyron o GPF. ¿Cómo creéis que va a influir esto en vuestra carrera?

DD: Creemos que el equipo de Limitless Agency puede contribuir mucho a nuestra carrera en términos de contratación y gestión. Es muy fácil trabajar con ellos y comparten nuestras mismas ambiciones.

LC: You recently announced your inclusion in Limitless Agency, an important agency that represents great DJs like Riot Shift, Thyron or GPF. How do you think this will influence your career?

DD: We believe the Limitless Agency team can really make a big contribution to our career in terms of bookings and management. They’re very easy and chill to work with and share the same ambitions as we have!

LC: Vais a pinchar en festivales y eventos relevantes como Malice In Wonderland, Rawness o Intents. ¿Qué más actuaciones tenéis previstas?

DD: De momento aún no podemos desvelar demasiada información sobre próximas actuaciones, pero ya podemos decir que va a ser un 2023 increíble 😉

LC: You are going to play at festivals and relevant events such as Malice In Wonderland, Rawness or Intents. What other festivals will you be performing at?

DD: At this moment we can’t give away too much info on upcoming performances yet, but we can already say it’s going to be an AMAZING 2023 😉

LC: ¿Podéis darnos alguna pista sobre lo que tenéis preparado para 2023?

DD: Un montón de actuaciones locas, nueva música y sí… ¡También estamos trabajando en el primer lanzamiento de merchandising de Dual Damage!

LC: Can you give us some clues about what you have in store for 2023?

DD: Lots of crazy performances, new music and yes… We’re working on the first Dual Damage merchandise drop as well!

LC: Ahora os vamos a proponer una serie de preguntas cortas.

LC: ¿Tenéis pensado incluir en vuestras sesiones más géneros aparte de raw?

DD: De momento no. ¡Acabamos de encontrar la dulzura en nuestras producciones con el raw!

LC: Do you plan to include in your sessions more genres besides raw?

DD: Not right now. We’ve just found the sweet spot in our productions with raw!

LC: ¿Pinchar o producir?

DD: Ambas.

LC: ¿Producing or DJing?

DD: Both.

LC: ¿Con qué DAW trabajáis?

DD: FL Studio.

LC: What DAW do you work with?

DD: FL Studio.

LC: Una meta a largo plazo.

DD: Convertirnos en artistas establecidos en la escena raw y vivir una vida feliz y divertida con mucha música, viajes y amigos.

LC: A long term goal.

DD: Become an established name in the raw scene and live happy and fun lives with lots of music, traveling and friends!

LC: Vuestros hobbies aparte de la música.

DD: Beber cerveza, ¡jaja! Los dos somos fiesteros por naturaleza y encontramos mucha alegría e inspiración en las fiestas. Además, valoramos mucho a nuestros amigos y a nuestra familia, y nos encanta pasar tiempo con ellos.

LC: Your hobbies apart from music.

DD: Drinking beer haha! We’re both party animals by nature and find lots of joy and inspiration at parties! Next to that we value our friendships and family also a lot, and love to spend time with them.

LC: ¿Qué os llama la atención de España?

DD: Sabemos que los fans del raw en España son legendarios. Son verdaderos fanáticos y es genial ver que la escena está creciendo mucho en España los últimos tiempos. Realmente esperamos ir a pinchar en España pronto, así que aseguraos de hablar con vuestros clubs y festivales locales sobre Dual Damage, amigos 😉

LC: What catches your attention from Spain?

DD: We know the raw fans from Spain are LEGENDARIOS! They’re true fanatics and it’s great to see that the scene is growing in Spain now. We really hope to come and perform in Spain soon, so make sure to tell your local clubs and festivals about Dual Damage, amigos! 😉
