Hemos tenido el placer de entrevistar a Micha y Jordi, más conocidos como Tinlicker que hace unas semanas lanzaron su EP “About You” por mau5trap.

Con lanzamientos en sellos como Anjunadeep, Mau5trap, Zerothree o recientemente en This Never Happened remixeando uno de los temás del último álbum de Lane 8, hemos podido charlar con el dúo holandés Tinlicker que nos han hablado sobre sus referentes, de dónde surgió la idea de unirse o cuáles son sus proyectos futuros entre otros asuntos. Esperamos que disfrutéis de esta gran entrevista.

Loud Cave: Empezamos hablando sobre vosotros, lo primero, ¿Cómo os conocisteis? y más importante, ¿Por qué decidisteis hacer música juntos?
Tinlicker: Micha ha formado parte de Black Sun Empire desde 1999, y antes de enamorarse del Drum and Bass, él solía escuchar todo tipo de música. Además, es importante seguir desafiándote a ti mismo, así que hace unos años Micha decidió que era el momento de ampliar el horizonte y comenzar a hacer más temas asociados al Dance. Jordi vino desde la escena progressive y house y trabaja como ghost producer, pero él también empezó en solitario con el mismo tipo de música que Micha había estado haciendo. Al mismo tiempo, nosotros teníamos la misma agente de prensa, que estuvo trabajando en los lanzamientos en solitario de ambos y notó la similitud en el sonido de ambos. Así que finalmente ella (Nicole Hofman) fue quien nos conectó y juntos llegamos a ser Tinlicker.

Loud Cave: We start talking about you, first of all, how did you meet each other? And the most important thing: why did you decide to make music together?
Tinlicker: Micha has been part of Black Sun Empire since 1999, and before he fell in love with Drum and Bass he used to listen to all kinds of music. Besides that it’s very important to keep challenging yourself, so a few years ago Micha decided it was time to widen the horizon and start making more Dance related tunes. Jordi came from the progressive and house scene and works as a ghost producer for several music acts, but he also just started a solo project with the same kind of style as Micha had been making. Coincidently we had the same PR agent who at that time was working on both our solo releases and noticed the similarity in our sound. So eventually she (Nicole Hofman) was the one who hooked us up and together we became Tinlicker.

LC: ¿Cuales han sido vuestros referentes a la hora de producir?
T: Realmente no trabajamos con referencias. La verdad es que no escuchamos otros temas dances para ser honestos. No creemos que sea una buena idea si nosotros queremos seguir fieles a nosotros mismos. Ambos escuchamos mucha música diferente fuera del “EDM”. Así que es de ahí, de donde insconscientemente conseguimos una gran fuente de inspiración.

LC: Who have been your references to produce?
T: We don’t really work with references. We actually don’t listen to other dance song to be honest. We think thats just not a good idea to do if we want to stay true to ourselves. We both listen to so many different music outside the ‘electronic dance’ music. So thats where we unconsciously get a lot of inspiration from.

LC: ¿Qué significa para vosotros la música?
T: La música significa un montón. Traduce nuestras emociones y sentimientos en una canción. Así que es un poco como una sesión terapéutica. Cuando nos sentimos un poco tristes y hacemos una canción, la mayoría de veces nos sentimos mejor después de crear una canción. Pero además de lo que nos hace a nosotros, es increíble ver lo que nuestra música hace con la gente!

LC: What does music mean for you?
T: Music means a lot. It translate our feelings and thoughts into a song. So it’s a bit like a therapy session. When we feel a Little bit sad, and we make a song most of the time we feel better after creating a song. But besides what it does to us, it’s great to see what our music does with people!

LC: Sabemos que hace poco lanzasteis “About You EP” por mau5trap, ¿cuál fue vuestra inspiración a la hora de producir este EP y cómo calificaríais el resultado final?
T: La cosa con este EP es que nosotros quisimos hacer una selección de temas, de forma que cada tema tendría su propio tipo de aspecto. Cada tema suena diferente desde nuestra perspectiva en este momento.

LC: We know that you released “About You EP” on mau5trap few days ago, what was your inspiration while you were producing that EP and how would you describe the final result?
T: The thing with this EP is that we wanted to make a selection of tracks so that every track would have it’s own kind of element. Each track sounds different from our perspective now

LC: Si seguimos hablando de este sello, sabemos que habéis lanzado varias veces por él, ¿qué significa para vosotros que artistas como deadmau5 confíen en vosotros?
T: Por supuesto que es realmente bueno saber que Joel nos apoya. Nos sentimos realmente bien con esto

LC: If we continue talking about this record label, we know that you have released music several times on it, so it means that artists like deadmau5 trust on you, what does it mean for you?
T: That is ofcourse really good to know that Joel supports us. We feel really good about that.

LC: Hablando de sellos, habéis podido aparecer en otros como Zerothree o Anjunadeep, ¿Cómo ha sido vuestra experiencia?
T: Nos sentimos afortunados de trabajar con tan grandes sellos. Ambos sellos tienen a gente estupenda trabajando con nosotros y esperamos que podamos continuar colaborando con estos grandes sellos.

LC: Talking about records labels, you have been able to appear in other like Zerothree or Anjunadeep, how has your experience been on both records labels?
T: We feel blessed to work with such great labels. Both labels have really nice people working with us and we hope we can continue our collaborations with those great labels.

LC: Nos sorprendió mucho vuestra aparición en el álbum de remixes de Little By Little, ¿creéis que podríais aparecer más veces en el sello de Lane 8?
T: Lane 8 nos preguntó para hacer un remix así que nosotros lo hicimos 🙂 Definitivamente podría ser posible para nosotros trabajar en This Never Happened de nuevo.

LC: We were surprised when you appeared in the remixed album of Little by little, do you think that you can release more tracks in This Never Happened?
T: We where asked by Lane 8 to do a remix and so we did 🙂 It could definitely be possible for us to work on This Never happened again. 

LC: ¿Hay algún productor con el que os gustaría colaborar en un futuro?
T: Por el momento, estamos demasiados ocupados creando nuevos temas. No encontramos tiempo aún para trabajar en una colaboración pero por supuesto, hay muchos grandes productores ahí fuera.

LC: Is there any producer which you would like to collaborate with?
T: At this moment we are so busy creating new songs we don’t have found time yet to work on a collaboration but of course there are some great producers out there.

LC: Desde Loud Cave siempre nos hemos caracterizado por intentar ayudar a los productores más pequeños o desconocidos, ¿podríais citarnos algunos productores que soláis escuchar y que por una causa u otra no tienen tanta repercusión como se merecen?
T: Bueno, no sabemos tanto de productores pequeños o desconocidos, pero en estos momentos disfrutamos mucho de la música de gente joven y talentosa como Deeparture, Tom Zeta o Mees Salomé. A todos ellos les conocemos en la vida real y son grandes chicos!

LC: In Loud Cave we try to help small and unknown producers, could you mention some producer like these that you listen?
T: Well we dont know that small or unknown producers that much, but at this moment we really enjoy the music from young and talented people like Deeparture, Tom Zeta or Mees Salomé. We both met them in real life and they are really great guys!

LC: ¿Qué opinais de la escena electrónica en España? ¿Estáis pensando en actuar aquí?
T: Nos encanta pinchar en España. Micha ha pinchado un montón allí con su otro proyecto musical “Black Sun Empire”. Esperemos que España esté lista para Tinlicker en el futuro 😀

LC: What do you think about electronic music scene in Spain? Are you thinking about playing here?
T: We would really love to play in Spain. Micha played in Spain a lot with his other musical Project ‘Black Sun Empire’. Hopefully Spain is ready for Tinlicker in the future 😀

LC: ¿Nos podríais decir algún club o festival donde hayáis pinchado alguna vez y os encantaría volver?
T: El año pasado pinchamos por primera vez en Tomorrowland, en Bélgica. Fue una gran experiencia y lo sentimos como un gran logro para nosotros. Esperamos poder volver este año, cruzamos los dedos.

LC: Could you tell us any club or festival where you played sometime and you would like to return?
T: Last year we played for the first time on Tomorrowland in Belgium. That was a really great experience and felt like a big archievement for us. Hopefully we can return this year, fingers crossed.

LC: Por último nos gustaría saber algo sobre vuestros proyectos futuros, ¿tenéis alguno en marcha o tenéis algo en mente que os gustaría realizar en un futuro cercano?
T: Definitivamente tenemos grandes proyectos que verán la luz este año. Pero desafortunadamente no podemos hablaros aún sobre ello 🙂 Pero os podemos asegurar de que habrá nueva música este año.

LC: Finally, we would like to know something about your future projects, do you have something in progress or do you have some project in mind that you would like to do in a future?
T: We definitely have some really great projects coming up this year. But unfortunately we cannot talk about that yet 🙂 But we can tell you that there will be new music this year for sure!
