Las entrevistas de hard no paran en la cueva. Hoy hablamos con Yoshiko, una DJ de uptempo hardcore que está viviendo el mejor momento de su carrera artística. ¡Vamos a ello!
Loud Cave: Hola Giada, ¡bienvenida a la cueva! La festival season de 2023 acaba de terminar, y durante los últimos meses has hecho varios B2B con artistas de renombre, así como sesiones en solitario en los mejores festivales de hard. Cuéntanos, ¿cómo ha sido tu experiencia este verano?
Yoshiko: Hola chicos, gracias por recibirme. Este verano ha sido mágico para mí, las cosas parecen empezar a funcionar, probablemente por primera vez… así que estoy muy feliz de ver que el duro trabajo realizado en el pasado ahora está dando sus frutos.
Loud Cave: Hi Giada, welcome to the cave! The 2023 festival season has just ended, and during the last months you’ve done several B2B with renowned artists, as well as solo sets at the best hard music festivals. Tell us, how has been your experience this summer?
Yoshiko: Hi guys, thanks for having me first of all! This summer has been magic to me, things seems like starting to work, and probably for the first time ever… so I ‘m really happy to see that the hard works done in the past is now paying off.
LC: Además de ser DJ y productora, ¿también trabajas de modelo?
Y: Me gustaría aclarar el hecho de que yo no soy productora, pero trabajo en el estudio con Andrea (Mind Compressor) y Gabriele (Antenora). Y sí, me encanta el modelaje, pero en verano me tomé un pequeño descanso porque estaba más centrada en la música. No olvidemos que tengo un trabajo fijo como directora general de una empresa de moda en la que trabajo de 4 a 5 días a la semana, así que sigo dedicándole mucho tiempo.
LC: Besides being a DJ and producer, do you also work as a model?
Y: I would like to remark the fact that I’m not fully producer myself, but I work in the studio together with Andrea (Mind Compressor) and Gabriele (Antenora). And yes, I love doing it, but for the summer I took a little break as I was more focused on music. Let’s not forget that I have a regular job as a general manager of a fashion company where I work 4 to 5 days a week, so it still taking a lot of my time.
LC: Por lo que sabemos, tienes raíces italianas, brasileñas y japonesas. ¿Por qué elegiste Yoshiko como nombre artístico?
Y: Yoshiko es el nombre de mi tía, quien crió a mi madre cuando perdió a su madre prematuramente. Lamentablemente, ya no está con nosotros desde el pasado agosto.
LC: As far as we know, you have Italian, Brazilian and Japanese roots. Why did you choose Yoshiko as your stage name?
Y: Yoshiko is the name of my aunty, who raised my mum when she lost her mum prematurely. Sadly to share with you, she is no longer with us since last august.
LC: A raíz de haber entrevistado a artistas italianos como Andy The Core, sabemos que la escena del hard en Italia está muy bien valorada. Sin embargo; desconocemos qué opina la gente del hardcore en Japón y en Brasil. ¿Crees que también se valora en dichos países?
Y: Japón tiene una escena hard muy pequeña, ¡pero existe! Lo sé con certeza. ¡Mi mayor objetivo es poder pinchar en Japón algún día! Respecto a Brasil, seguramente haya gente escuchando hardcore allí, pero yo diría que la parte más grande de la escena hard en América Latina está principalmente en México.
LC: From having interviewed Italian artists like Andy The Core, we know that the hardcore scene in Italy is very well appreciated. However, we don’t know what people think about hardcore in Japan and Brazil. Do you think it is also appreciated in those countries?
Y: Japan has a really smaller scene, but there is! I know for sure. My biggest goal is being able to play in japan one day! About Brazil, there is surely people listening to hardcore there, but I would say that the biggest part of the hard scene in America Latina is mainly in Mexico.
LC: A pesar de que tus primeros tracks oficiales se remontan al año 2018 (véanse ‘Pop It’ o ‘H8ers’), tu popularidad ha aumentado muchísimo durante los dos últimos años. Por ello, nos gustaría saber si has tomado la decisión de mudarte a los Países Bajos, o por el contrario sigues viviendo en tu país de origen.
Y: Me mudé a Holanda en 2013 y nunca me fui desde entonces 🙂
LC: Even though your first official tracks date back to 2018 (see ‘Pop It’ or ‘H8ers’), your popularity has increased a lot during the last two years. Therefore, we would like to know if you have made the decision to move to the Netherlands, or on the contrary you are still living in your home country.
Y: I moved to the Netherlands in 2013 and never left since:)
LC: Empezaste sacando música en Traxtorm, y has pasado por sellos muy relevantes como Gearbox Overdrive, Afterlife, Darkside Unleashed o hasta el propio Barong Family. ¿Valoras la posibilidad de firmar con un sello?
Y: Y por Barbaric Records y Casual Gabberz Records también. No, no deseo firmar con ningún sello, ya que una de las mejores partes de la agencia a la que pertenezco es que tengo libertad absoluta para publicar en cualquier lugar. Creo que ahora es un buen momento para explorar.
LC: You started releasing music on Traxtorm, and you have been on very relevant labels such as Gearbox Overdrive, Afterlife, Darkside Unleashed or even Barong Family itself. Do you value the possibility of signing with a label?
Y: And Barbaric Records and Casual Gabberz Records too. No, I do not wish to sign to any label, as one of the best parts of the agency where I belong is that I have absolute freedom to release anywhere. I think now is good for me to explore.
LC: Has colaborado con la DJ española Lady Dammage en ‘Halo’, has hecho B2Bs con Hysta y fuiste la primera artista femenina en unirse a la agencia BKJN. ¿Cómo ves el papel de la mujer en la escena del hardcore?
Y: Como en todo… ¡Las mujeres son absolutamente imprescindibles!
LC: You have collaborated with Spanish DJ Lady Dammage on ‘Halo’, you have done B2Bs with Hysta and you were the first female artist to join the BKJN agency. How do you see the role of women in the hardcore scene?
Y: As in everything …Women are absolutely a must!
LC: Tu discografía cuenta con varias colaboraciones junto a Mind Compressor, como pueden ser ‘Rhythm Is The Sound’, ‘I Can’t Get It’ y ‘Titanium Tool’. ¿Tenéis pensado volver a colaborar?
Y: Por supuesto que sí. Creo que Mind Compressor es uno de los productores más infravalorados que hay, y no puedo dejar de amar su sonido.
LC: Your discography includes several collaborations with Mind Compressor, such as ‘Rhythm Is The Sound’, ‘I Can’t Get It’ and ‘Titanium Tool’. Do you plan to collaborate again?
Y: Absolutely yes. I think Mind Compressor is one of the most underrated producer out there, and I can’t stop loving his sound.
LC: Sin duda alguna, uno de tus lanzamientos más importantes es el remix con F. Noize a ‘Forever’, de S3RL. ¿Cómo fue para ti trabajar con el gran F. Noize?
Y: F. Noize es, quieran reconocerlo o no, el creador del uptempo. Venid a peleaos conmigo si no estáis de acuerdo. Fue un gran honor, por supuesto, pero yo diría que Francesco y yo somos muy buenos amigos, y él siempre me dijo desde el día 1 que me daría una oportunidad. Y esta es también una de las razones por las que lo respeto mucho… Es uno de los más grandes y siempre da una oportunidad a artistas pequeños/próximos… Y confiad en que no todos lo hacen.
LC: Undoubtedly, one of your most important releases is the remix with F. Noize to ‘Forever’, by S3RL. How was it for you to work with the great F. Noize?
Y: F. Noize is, if you wanna recognize it or not, the creator of uptempo itself. Come and fight with me if you disagree. It was a great honor, of course, but I would say that Francesco and I are really good friends, and he always told me since day 1 that would gave me a chance. This is also once of the reasons why I respect him very much… He is one of the biggest and always give a chance to small/upcoming artists… And trust not everyone does it.
LC: ¿Puedes darnos alguna pista sobre lo que tienes pensado para esta nueva temporada?
Y: ¡Nope! No spoilers. Sólo puedo decir que después del remix de ‘Bitch I Can’ vendrá mas música ¡2023 aún no ha terminado!
LC: Can you give us any hints about what you have in mind for this new season?
Y: Nope, no spoilers! I can just tell that after the ‘Bitch I Can’ remix, more music will follow. 2023 ain’t done yet!
LC: La última vez que te vimos en directo fue en Nexus Festival (Fabrik, Madrid), y nos quedamos flipando con tu energía y tu amor por el uptempo. ¿Cómo es Yoshiko en cabina?
Y: ¿Os podéis creer que pinché en Fabrik? Fue todo un logro y mi madre estaba conmigo, así que creedme, ¡mi nivel de energía fue alto! A menudo veo a la gente impresionarse por mi energía en el escenario, pero así soy en la pista de baile. Escucho esta música desde que tengo 14 años, y cuando me mudé a Holanda fue simplemente por el gran amor que tengo por esta música… ¡El hardcore no es una fase; es un estilo de vida! Y el uptempo es el más divertido de los subgéneros del hardcore. Los kicks son tan violentos, agresivos… ¿Y los fake drops? ¡Me encantan los fake drops!
LC: The last time we saw you live was at Nexus Festival (Fabrik, Madrid), and we were blown away by your energy and your love for uptempo. How is Yoshiko in the booth?
Y: Can you believe I played at Fabrik? What an achievement it was… And my mum was with me, so trust me on that my energy level was high! I often hear people impressed by my energy on stage, but this is me on the dancefloor. I listen this music since I was 14, and when I moved to Holland was just because of the big love I have for this music… Hardcore ain’t a phase; is a lifestyle! And uptempo is the funniest of the subgenres of hardcore. Kicks are just so violent, agressive… And fake drops? I love fake drops!
LC: Nos sorprendió mucho la presencia de tu madre en dicho set, y nos encantaría saber cuál es su opinión acerca de la música tan extrema que pincha su hija hahaha.
Y: ¡Siempre la odió! Pero no ha habido un día de mi vida en el que mi madre no me haya apoyado. Tengo mucha suerte, y ahora supongo que incluso le gusta mi música, ¡porque vi que bailaba en Fabrik! Ahahah.
LC: We were very surprised by the presence of your mother in that set, and we would love to know what is her opinion about the extreme music her daughter plays hahaha.
Y: She always hated! But there has no been a day of my life when my mum hadn’t supported me. I’m really lucky, and now I guess she even likes my music as I recognized she was dancing at Fabrik! Ahahah.

LC: ¿Qué te transmite el uptempo como para dedicarte a él en vez de a otros géneros del hard?
Y: La verdad es que nunca me “moví” al uptempo. Me encanta y vibro con él, así que por eso lo pincho. Mis sets realmente pueden ser diversos, y siempre depende de dónde estoy actuando también. Que quede claro que puedo pinchar cualquier música; voy con mis vibraciones y, por supuesto, con las vibraciones del lugar donde estoy actuando.
LC: What is it about uptempo that makes you dedicate yourself to it instead of other hard music genres?
Y: I never really moved to uptempo. I love it and I vibe with it, so I play it. My sets really can be diverse, and it always depends on where I am performing too. Let’s be clear on that, I can play any music, so I go with my vibes and of course with the vibes where I am performing.
LC: ¿Te gustan los zaag kicks?
Y: Sí, no todos, pero algunos sí.
LC: Do you like zaag kicks?
Y: Yes! Not all of them, but some I really do!
LC: Tus hobbies aparte de la música.
Y: Leer libros, ver anime y viajar.
LC: Your hobbies apart from music.
Y: Reading books, watching anime and travel.
LC: Algo que te llame la atención de España.
Y: ¡El flamenco! Fui a un espectáculo con mi madre y me divertí mucho.
LC: Something that catches your attention in Spain.
Y: Flamenco! I went to a show with my mum and liked it a lot.
LC: Por último, ¿algo que quieras decirles a tus fans españoles?
Y: Los españoles sois los más locos en la pista de baile. Siempre es un placer visitaos; la energía y la hospitalidad son abrumadoras. Así que gracias chicos, porque no me canso de vosotros. Espero ir cada vez más para poder conoceros y bailar juntos <3
LC: Finally, anything you want to tell to your Spanish fans?
Y: Spanish are the craziest people on the dance floor. It’s always such a pleasure to go there; the energy and the hospitality are overwhelming. So thank you guys, cause I can’t get enough of you! I hope that more and more will come in order to be able to meet you all and dance together <3
