Las entrevistas de hard no paran en la cueva, ¡ya lo sabéis! Hoy charlamos con Odium, un joven productor de hardcore que ha evolucionado mucho su sonido en este 2023. Papel y boli porque, ¡estas son nuestras preguntas para Loek!
Loud Cave: Hola Loek, ¡bienvenido a Loud Cave! Antes de comenzar con la entrevista nos gustaría agradecerte tu paso por la cueva; esperamos que todo te esté yendo muy bien. A modo de introducción y sabiendo que este año has pinchado en grandes festivales como Knockout Outdoor, nos gustaría que nos contases cuáles han sido las actuaciones que más has disfrutado en 2023.
Odium: Hola, amigos. Gracias por la entrevista, ¡es un placer! Creo que todas destacaron, pero si tengo que elegir, me quedo con Open Beatz. La energía fue demencial y todo el mundo bailó sin parar.
Loud Cave: Hello Loek, welcome to Loud Cave! Before we start with the interview we would like to thank you for coming to the cave; we hope everything is going great for you. By way of introduction and knowing that this year you have played in big festivals like Knockout Outdoor, we would like you to tell us what have been the shows you have enjoyed the most in 2023.
Odium: Hey, dudes! Thanks for the interview, such a pleasure! I think all of them really stood out, but if I have to choose, I have to go for Open Beatz. The energy was insane, and everybody was dancing non-stop.
LC: Tus primeros releases se remontan al año 2018 (véanse tracks como ‘Kill’, ‘Fight’ o ‘Nightmare’), por lo que llevas relativamente poco tiempo en la escena. ¿Cómo surgió tu pasión por el hardcore?
O: Buena pregunta. Siempre me ha gustado mucho el hardstyle, pero al final me apeteció algo más rápido, ¡jaja! Así que al principio empecé recreando el sonido hardcore que ya existía. Creo que el verdadero impacto llegó cuando empecé a publicar música en mi propio sello para buscar una libertad creativa total. Mi sonido ya no es estrictamente hardcore, sino más bien hard dance.
LC: Your first releases date back to 2018 (see tracks like ‘Kill’, ‘Fight’ or ‘Nightmare’), so you’ve been in the scene for a relatively short time. How did your passion for hardcore come about?
O: Hmm, good question, haha! I’ve always had a big love for hardstyle, but in the end, I was craving something faster, haha! So initially, I started by recreating the hardcore sound that already existed. I believe the real impact came when I began releasing music on my own label to pursue complete creative freedom. I don’t think my sound is strictly hardcore anymore, but more like hard dance.
LC: Empezaste sacando música en Dogfight Records, y más tarde lanzaste temas en Basscon Records (véanse ‘On My Mind’ o ‘Chasing Stars’ junto al vocalista español Drean). Sin embargo; ahora lanzas música en tu propio sello, Worldwidedomination, el cual comparte nombre con el tour mundial que hiciste y con una collab con MC Syco. ¿Vas a seguir utilizando tu label o has pensado en firmar por otro sello?
O: Puede que el año que viene publique en algún label como invitado, pero la atención se centra en mi propio sello.
LC: You started releasing music on Dogfight Records, and later released tracks on Basscon Records (see ‘On My Mind’ or ‘Chasing Stars’ with the Spanish vocalist Drean). However; now you release music on your own label, Worldwidedomination, which shares its name with the world tour you did and a collab with MC Syco. Are you going to continue using your label or have you thought about signing to another label?
O: Maybe some guest releases next year, but the focus is on my own label.
LC: En 2022 sacaste ‘Still Standing Strong’ junto al gran Dr. Peacock y Da Mouth Of Madness, una pieza incluida en su álbum Medication Time. ¿Cómo fue colaborar con la mayor leyenda de la historia del frenchcore?
O: Estuvo muy bien, y la historia que hay detrás de esto también es genial. Creo que un año y medio antes de que saliera el disco, recibí un audio de Da Mouth Of Madness. Me dijo que estaba quedando con Dr. Peacock y que había compartido algo de mi música con él. Después me dijo que a Dr. Peacock le gustó mucho mi estilo, que estaba trabajando en un álbum, ¡y que estaba interesado en colaborar conmigo! Fue todo un honor.
LC: In 2022 you released ‘Still Standing Strong’ with the great Dr. Peacock and Da Mouth Of Madness, a piece included in his album Medication Time. How was it collaborating with the greatest legend in the history of frenchcore?
O: It was really nice, and the story behind this one is also really cool. I think about 1.5 years before the album dropped, I received a voice memo from Da Mouth Of Madness. He mentioned he was hanging out with Dr. Peacock and shared some of my music with him. He told me that Dr. Peacock really liked my style and was working on an album, expressing an interest in collaborating with me! Such an honor.
LC: Además de tu tema ‘The Curse’ junto a GridKiller, no cuentas con muchas colaboraciones en tu discografía. ¿Por qué prefieres sacar canciones en solitario?
O: En realidad esto no está premeditado, ¡jaja! Es sólo una coincidencia, aunque tengo algunas colaboraciones y remixes muy chulos para 2024.
LC: Besides your track ‘The Curse’ with GridKiller, you don’t have many collaborations in your discography. Why do you prefer to release solo songs?
O: There isn’t really a reason for that, haha! Just a coincidence. Although, I have some very cool collabs and remixes coming up in 2024.
LC: Este año has sorprendido lanzando ‘Ready To Fall’ en el sello oficial de Intents Records. ¿Qué simboliza esta canción para ti?
O: Para mí, este tema simboliza que si quieres algo en la vida, tienes que ir a por ello y trabajar duro. He tenido un viaje muy bonito con Intents Festival: desde escuchar sus himnos y participar en un concurso de DJs cuando Odium ni siquiera existía, a pinchar en el escenario de pequeñas promesas y finalmente hacer la canción de clausura del festival.
LC: This year you have surprised by releasing ‘Ready To Fall’ on the official Intents Records label. What does this song symbolize for you?
O: This track really symbolizes for me that if you want something in life, you really have to go for it and work hard. I’ve had such a nice journey with Intents Festival: from hearing its anthems and participating in a DJ contest when Odium didn’t even exist, to playing at the talent stage and finally making the closing song for the festival.
LC: Te debates entre el euphoric frenchcore y el hardcore mainstream. ¿Cuál es el subgénero que más te gusta producir?
O: Jaja, ¡creo que también podemos añadir el hardstyle a esa lista! No lo veo como un único subgénero, sino como la combinación de todos ellos y su fusión en el sonido de Odium.
LC: You’re torn between euphoric frenchcore and mainstream hardcore. Which subgenre do you enjoy producing the most?
O: Haha, I think we can add hardstyle to that list as well! I don’t see it as just one subgenre, but rather as combining those and melding them into the Odium sound.
LC: En 2019 lanzaste los EPs Take The Hit, Stage 00 y Lights Up. ¿Tienes pensado volver a lanzar otro EP? ¿Quizá un álbum?
O: Quién sabe lo que nos deparará el futuro. Por ahora sólo me centro en los singles.
LC: In 2019 you released the EPs Take The Hit, Stage 00 and Lights Up. Are you planning to release another EP again? Maybe an album?
O: Who knows what the future holds! For now I’m just focusing on singles.
LC: ¿Cómo es Odium en cabina?
O: ¡Enérgico!
LC: How is Odium in the booth?
O: Energetic!
LC: A principios de año pinchaste en la Megapanic de Fabrik. De hecho, tu set en dicha fiesta protagoniza el videoclip de ‘Deserts In The Night’. ¿Cómo fue tu experiencia con el público español?
O: ¡Fue realmente bonito! Aún recuerdo el día en que se anunció este show y mi DM se inundó de mensajes como: “¡por fin vienes a España!”, y cosas así.
LC: Earlier this year you played at the Megapanic at Fabrik. In fact, your set at that party was featured in the videoclip of ‘Deserts In The Night’. How was your experience with the Spanish audience?
O: It was really nice! I still remember the day when this show was announced and my DM was flooded with messages like: “finally you are coming to Spain!”, and so on.
LC: Ahora vamos a plantearte una serie de preguntas cortas.

O: Creo que trabajar con nombres que se alejen del hard sería genial. Illenium, Alan Walker, Armin van Buuren.

LC: Your three dream collaborations.
O: Working with non-hard dance names would be really cool, I think. Illenium, Alan Walker, Armin van Buuren.
LC: ¿Pinchar o producir?
O: Producir, si tengo que elegir.
LC: DJing or producing?
O: Producing if I have to choose.
LC: ¿Qué DAW utilizas para producir?
O: FL Studio.
LC: What DAW do you use to produce?
O: FL Studio.
LC: ¿Con quién crees que harías un buen B2B?
O: Hmm, es una pregunta difícil, ya que me gusta mucho actuar en solitario para no tener que comprometerme. Pero si tuviera que elegir, me quedaría con Dr. Peacock.
LC: Who do you think you would do a good B2B with?
O: Hmm, kind of a hard question, as I really like to perform solo, so I don’t have to make any compromises. But if I had to choose, I would go for Dr. Peacock.
LC: El tema hecho por ti al que más cariño le tienes.
O: Es una pregunta difícil. Me quedaría con ‘Ready To Fall’ o ‘Stuck (Inside This Place)’.
LC: The track made by you that you love the most.
O: That’s a hard question! I’d go for ‘Ready To Fall’ or ‘Stuck (Inside This Place)’.
LC: Tus hobbies aparte de la música.
O: Hacer ejercicio en el gimnasio o jugar a la PlayStation, jaja. También me gusta mucho comer en restaurantes.
LC: Your hobbies apart from music.
O: Working out in the gym or playing some PlayStation, haha. I also really like eating out at restaurants.
LC: Una meta a largo plazo.
O: Pinchar en los festivales más grandes del mundo: Tomorrowland, EDC, Ultra, Medusa, etc.
LC: A long term goal.
O: Playing at the biggest festivals on Earth: Tomorrowland, EDC, Ultra, Medusa, etc.
